I had been using 7.5 all day again, which work fine at short ranges, but over about 30 metres results in birds flying off after being hit (and six of these dropped 2-3 metres after being hit, then flew on).

So, the farmer texted me this morning and asked me to set up on a field near a bunch of antis as he was having problems with crows there ( note, these antis have reported people to police and lost them their gun licences, they make a habit of reporting anything, and also stand with tins and bang loudly on them to scare birds away, let the air out of your tyres etc). Not to be daunted, I decided I would set up at 08:00 hours, so they couldn't report me for disturbing their nights rest LOL. Any way, got all set up and waited, had six birds in the bag when the farmers sons appear revving the guts out of tractors, and announce they are going to be baling. So had to pack everything back up, and wait. For them to finish that. Two hours later, I'm setup on the field again, and just as three nice big crows come in to float, so VRRROOOOOOMMMM, and the tractors start to appear through the gate again. Yep, they've come to collect the bales so headed home (left the setup there, took gun and shells with me) and had a cuppa and some toast. After an hour headed back again, and just as the birds start to appear again VROOOMMM, they appear to start on the adjacent field. And that's how it went ALL DAY LONG. So, at 16:30 hours I decided to call it a day. I had been using 7.5 all day again, which work fine at short ranges, but over about 30 metres results in birds flying off after being hit (and six of these dropped 2-3 metres after being hit, then flew on). Total bag for the day was 18 birds dropped (13 recovered, other five in adjacent fields), and six hard hit but still flying. Another problem with shooting that field was I could only shoot about a 90 degree arc in front and behind me, as left and right, and to the rear were the houses of the antis, and they just need an excuse to call the police, so had to he careful no shot dropped near their houses, which made shooting very difficult to say the least. Then got back home, and in the barley field behind my house there were cattle again. Though just be the same as last week so rang the farmer to tell him the fence was down again, but checked the fence as was doing it, and discovered fence was intact. So rang the other farmer behind me, and got him to come out I found where the break in the fence was, drove the cattle back into their field, and then offered to repair the break for the farmer myself, if he gave me some pallets, posts, and twine to do the job. He went and got that and after two hard hours of hammering, had the posts in, the pallets up, and tied into position, and some barbed wire across to. The farmer is over 80 years old, and was my first shooting permission when I moved to NI, so was really glad to help him. But am now very tired LOL

Nope but the whole family might just have well been today for all the help they were. That's the second day they've spoiled a good days shooting. However, I do understand the reason they had to do it. This is the first dry weather we've had for ages, so they had to ge the straw and hay in while the going was good, as Thursday onwards is forecast rain again

I got some 6's left ( about 500), but they are a batch that I had problems with misfires, and hang fires. 3 times last week Saturday I had wads stuck in the barrel. Hence now using the 7.5 till I get time to go and get some other cartridges. Will probably go for the 36gr no4's again, as those work well at long range, and have about the same shot density as no6 in 32gr.

Well Redd,
If they ask you to do something, they could warn you in advance, that today is not a good day.... THAT they could do! I understand their problems, does not mean they could not inform you of the plan...

I love the second part of the story. Helping an old farmer/person - always winning!!!! U gotta respect and support the elderly - even if you do not always agree!
