Starting early this year

I decided to visit several of my farms this year and get some hides built prior to season. My favorite place to hunt has a 200 acre bottom in it. I pulled up to the farmers place and he was glad to see I was after his crows. I notice that he had'nt gotten his corn out. I told him I was out building hides but would come back after harvest. He insited that I build my hide that day. He actualy was willing to lose his outside row of corn to my 4 wheeler tires just so I would be sure and build my hide and come back to shoot his crows. This farmer raises seed corn and grinds feed to feed his family. Needless to say he does not like crows. I left the 4 wheeler and walked to build my hide. I built 3 hides, on two farms, 2 elaborate 1 makeshift. All the hides were facing the northwest as most of the fronts seem to be from the south until January. The crops I will be hunting over are very poor with the acception of three farms that were irrigated. All of them were harvested early and what waste hit the ground is a six inch volunteer. I'm concerned about the birds staying in the area especialy after guys like M12 shooter get done with them up north. I will raise 9 kinds with them when they pass thru tho. 18 days and a wake up pics forthcoming I hope............

Chip,

I hope this season starts out better than last for you. If I remember correctly you had a rough start last year with few birds in your area.

We may get to open season a little early here at the request of a farmer and an animal control permit.

Good luck.

Chip, my season up here has come to an abrupt end I fear. We had about a foot of snow a few days ago and temperatures have been unseasonably cool for this time of the year. Further, I have not been out after the crows for a bit as unfortunately the weather, family responsibility, and work get in the way. I plan to take a drive in the next day or two to survey my crow situation but I feel this weather has driven them south a week or 10 days sooner than normalcry.

I hope you crows show up but it has been my experience that during the fall crows congregate where the food is. I rarely shoot crows in the same fields one year to the next but rather do a bit of driving to locate crows and the fields they are feeding in. I then do some ground work and contact the landownwer and often the guy that put the crop in as many farmers rent land. Loads of ducks around though and I've shot a couple limits so far as wellsmile.
