Nice hunt. The white hair is strange. How do you guys hunt squirrels up there? Still hunt or with dogs? Shot gun or rifle?

In my honest opinion squirrel hunting is my favorite time in the woods early fall before deer hunting comes on and the cold weateher set in. My favorite gun is the Marlin 882 bolt action in 22 mag, I did buy a marlin 882 in the 17HMR  stainless steel with a laminated stock and mounted a scope on it a couple of months ago.  When I lived in New York I hunted squirrels every day from daylight untill about 9 am. As the different nut trees came into cycle I knew where I wanted to be set up, I loved hunting the shag bark hickories in early October!!! Early September was Beech Nut Trees. Early november was the Oaks, they like the white oak acorns better then the red oak acorns for sure. The White Oaks have a yeild every other year and the Red Oaks yeild every other year. And the Butter Nuts where a hot spot mid October. Squirrel hunting is by far my favorite, I really enjoy squirrel soup. If I had one species of game to hunt it would be gray squirrels with out a doubt.    Pat
