Hey Jon,, Another hero is lost.

Since 2001 I had been very close to an elderly gentleman here in the community. He was a Korean war vet. He passed away a couple weeks ago. He never spoke of his military past and never told me about his purple heart. I have been mowing his lawn and taking care of all the outside work around his place for about the last five years. He had very little family and was a very private type person, I was helping his sister clean out the house and found some very interesting facts about this man that I had been so close to for the last 11 years of his life. With permission I started digging thru his military papers, reading citations and his info. I was surprised to find out that he was one of the chosin few. Do yourself a favor and google this very decisive battle of the korean war. This man was wounded on the breakout move of that battle by a morter round that he stepped directly on during the break out charge. Shrapnel went thru his leg and into his stomach. He did not realize he was wounded until the charge was completed. After his funeral his friend a retired Sargeant Major told me the real deal that this man had told him. He thought that he had pisd his pants, but realized it was blood after the adrenalin rush. He had problems his entire life with that wound and doctors say it eventualy led to his cancer of the stomach. On a good note I remember pulling into his driveway several years ago to find a brand new KIA station wagon sitting in his driveway. I ask him why in the world would he purchase a new Korean made vehicle. He looked at me, smiled and said well " I killed so many of them Ba****ds I thought maybe I would pay them back a little" smile He was a great American and nobody ever knew it...no

It's a privilege to know these fellows and an honor to hear their tales.

Lots of wonderful old war stories, great stuff.

I just got off the phone with one of my old crow hunting buddies who is 88 years old now, he hasn't hunted crows in 10 or 12 years now. He is a WW2 vet and as long as I've known him he never talks about it.
