Foxes, a great problem in the UK since they banned fox hunting, so only option is to shoot them or snare them, or trap them in cages, then shoot them.
Poisening and using dogs is illegal, so these I shot. Still have another 15-17 to shoot, and that's just n one field, and will leave 1-2 alive, as they do have a p,ace in the country, just not in those numbers.
Problem is we now have animal rights activists actively catching them, and rehoming them next to sheep and chicken farms, and then complaining when we remove them "permanently"

Redditch, here in Western Canada we used to have loads of red fox. About 20 years ago the coyote population started to rise and the yotes killed off all the fox to a point where fox are only common now around cities and towns. Lately timber wolf numbers have began to climb to a point where they are a very serious problem for livestock owners. Below a photo of a mature female wolf I shot a couple years ago with a 222, about 30 miles from my home. Note the size of this things paw when compared to a loaded 16 gauge cartridge.
M12, we could only dream of that here. They have tried re introducing wolves, but they have been snared and poisened by farmers every time so the fox is the apex predator here, and unfortunately, they ahve started attacking people too, as their numbers have increased to where they infest the countryside and towns and villages too, and people have started to feed them, and hence they have lost their fear of humans, and instead associate humans with food. Attacks on children especially have increased dramatically

Hopefully your red fox over across the pond chew up a few animal rights activists

Lol, I wish they did. But one of these days rabies will arrive back in the UK, and then we will see people screaming for the foxes and badgers to be killed, as they are the major transmitters of this disease in Europe, and are spreading it towards Britain at an average 15-20 miles a year

One 50 grain round to the head put that wolf down OA. Wolves are the kind of animals one comes across most often when not carrying a firearm Bullet went in below the left eye and exited back of the right ear. It still spun around about a dozen times before piling up. This one was about 110 pounds. They get to about 150 pounds here in the south, larger in the far north.

There's a big fuss from the antis, as usual, over killing wolves in MI. This became legal one year ago under limited circumstances (immediate danger to livestock or dogs, etc.). If they continue to increase, there will likely be some very limited hunting in coming years.
We ocasionally see coyotes and foxes here in our yard and we're in the "city." Well, small town anyway.

P.S. - Still working on the Model 12.

We have had no rabies in the UK (except in some migratory bats in Scotland that come from Norway to over winter) since the 18th century.
That's what I thought (except for the bats--the Scots should simply ban Norwegian bats!), but I had not heard. I used to work in a public health dept. where animal-borne disease was monitored. Thanks.

Biggest problem we have is since hunting was banned and the anti brigade took foxes under their wings, people have started feeding them, and the result is a massive population explosion, and foxes attacking people because they no longer fear them.

What we also have a lot of now is the red foxes are getting bigger and heavier, and they Are starting to have a lot more black in them. This is due to them mating with Russian foxes that animal rights people deliberately released from fur farms here. The Russian foxes are bigger, heavier, and totally black, and hence the red and white fox is slowly disappearing to be replaced with a red and black one, that is also heavier, and bigger. A typical big red and white would be around 15 lbs weight, but we've had red and black ones between 30 and 40 lbs regularly

That's coyote size. Once they begin to munch on the antis' "frou-frou doggies" then they will have a real Nature Experience and squeal for the hunters to save them.

I have coyote tracks in the snow along my driveway. Seems o be going past the house about every third night. When I let my terrier out to pee, I have been going out to "stand guard." A 12 pound dog would be a quick snack for a coyote.
I need to get my game camera set up and see what time this coyote is coming through so I can kill it.

Yep, foxes have been caught taking not just chickens, lambs, and turkeys, but also cats, small dogs, and even the occassional piglet or calf if they think they can get away with it and the bigger they get, the more bold they get

We got about an inch of snow last night. This morning there were fresh tracks again of the coyote around 15 feet from the garage that is attached to the house. he's getting braver by the minute.
There was a full moon the last couple nights, hopefully it will be clear Friday evening. I think I'll sit on the carport roof which is almost flat and see if I can get him.

Just bait them if it's legal in your locale. Coyotes are getting hungry now. Put a few beef bones or fatty trim out for a couple evenings. The dogs will come at dusk like clockwork.

Yes, it's legal here. I have 2 big coffee cans in the freezer that are full of bacon grease. I thought I'd smear it on the trees and then toss meat scraps in the snow. If they'll come as close as some of the tracks, they'll give me a 20 yard shot.
