I am new to crowbusters and crow hunting and I was thinking about buying a Jack Mincey (JLM) Custom Crow Call from the Crowmart. I was wondering if anyone uses/used it and recommends it. I already have 2 older calls from when my dad had hunted back in the 80's and they r ok. And also is it a loud or soft volume? Thanks

Greetings 5065,

The JM calls have a high volume sound, they are good and loud. I have been using them for the past 5 years.

5065,

The Gibson and Mallardtone calls are also quite good.

5065: Mincey, Mallardtone, Gibson are all winners. As to which one is most effective...falls completely on the smile user!! The Mincey and Mallardtone tend ( at least for me ) to produce higher pitched sounds which are fine especially in wind. The Gibson tends to more adjustable and able to produce a deeper sound that I like. Fact is, I use two...one tuned to higher pitch.. the other lower. I think my results are helped when birds hear more than one pitch.

I have the Gibson short range and the Cedar Slayer. Love the Gibson and the Slayer is meh, I don't even use it, don't like the sound. My brother on his lanyard has a Gibson Long Range, Jack Lee Mincey and a Mallardtone. And he likes all of them. Cant go wrong with JLM and Gibson. I personally am not that big of fan of Mallardtone, but I haven't used it in the field.

With the Short Range Gibson I can make young crow sounds, and old crow sounds, it has great range which helps a lot for the fighting call, just today I had a group of crows circling over head in my yard with the fighting call.
