TIRE BLIND crow hunting.

My buddy Rick and I went out to the farm to hunt crows. We got about 2 inches of rain overnight, add that to the warm temps with all the snow melting, we couldn't drive out to the back fields. We didn't want to walk a half mile through 12" of slop, so we improvised. Near the dairy barns, there is a large pile of silage that they keep covered with plastic and hundreds and hundreds of old tires. The crows were flying past this pile of extra tires, so this gave us an idea.

After a quick piling of tires, we had a makeshift blind. We put out 3 decoys and turned the caller on. we soon had a few shots. Each crow that we killed received the standard stick up their hind end to become a decoy. We dropped our camo hats for black ones to help with the hiding. We didn't get many, but right around 20 birds. This was while my truck was parked about 60 feet away. The crows are pretty used to vehicles of all types. Certainly not our best hunt, but considering the circumstances, we had a good time.................and I wasn't at work.smile

Here is Rick standing in the tire blind.

View of decoys from inside the blind. (The wind was blowing hard from left to right. Crows would fly in against the wind and some sensed that something was wrong and wouldn't come all the way in. So we moved all the dekes upwind about 15-20 yards and then when they "short-stroked" us, they were then within range by the time they started to get leave.)

Damn fine tire hide.

20 down and 20 yards from the truck is a fine hunt.

Interesting blind there. I too often use old farm equipment and or out buildings as blinds. Crows like any other wildlife will become accustomed to their environment be it trees or tires! Thanks for sharingsmile
