Hit the same sunflower field where I had a decent shoot mid-last week. Crows were anything but tardy as the first bunch arrived well before sun rise. Killed 21 bandits before the sun peeked over the horizon. One never gets tired of a warm shotgun barrel!
Only managed 3 more crows and a magpie in the couple hours after but it was a stellar morning in all accounts. Packed up just after 9 AM with 24 kills. To my shock and anguish I stood jaw down next to my truck as hundreds of crows piled into the crop. Oh well. I'll get them next week...
Pics of some dead crows and a fine shotgun, some visitors next field over and one strange looking creature.
Nice photos. A hunt in my dreams only. Ditto on the splendid shotgun. Is it possible that the sprig of three-leafed vegetation turning red is your local variety of poison ivy?
I took one shot this afternoon (with little hope for a hit) at a crow way up in the lofty heights, while checking on the gut pile left for the yotes' yesterday, following my first-ever deer kill (MI has s two-day "antlerless" season this weekend). The half-dozen or so bandits that responded to the initial call took off for good. Nothing heard from them subsequently. So, for the next couple of hours I switched gears to the turkey hunting mode for the remainder of the hunt. This is a place where the crows have been hunted way too much and are very human savvy. However, there is a good deer (-1) and turkey population. This weekend, with all the overlapping seasons, one could hunt: small game, deer, turkey, and of course, crows. Almost too many choices.
M12 My Girlfriend just located two large sunflower fields for me on her way home from work,, I'll wait till they are harvested before gunning them though. Hard to beat a good sunflower field when the birds arrive
