Took a young marine and his father out this past weekend. The young man wanted to kill some crows before he left for Camp Lejeune this morning. We had a great time.
I just got in the door an hour ago from my second hunt of the season. This was a flyway shoot in the afternoon from 2:30 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. The wind was north at 10 to 15 mph and 58 degrees out. My average would have been better if I was not trying to rush and try to wipe em all out! Made many doubles perhaps a dozen triples (3 with three shots) and two quadruples in this shoot. I bought 4,000 trap loads in 8's a while back, got a good price on them so that's what I have been using.
I used 400 trap loads for 272 crows today.

You are the man! I still haven't found a good flyway shoot location yet. But, I am still looking! The birds down here in Bama seem to still be spread out bad so far. Just not seeing any good numbers anywhere. Very unusual for this time in the year. The pecan crop pretty much sucks this year down here as well. Making for a strange year.

Had my third shoot of the season this afternoon. I was solo again and shot 189 crows with 262 Federal trap loads from 3:00 P.M. to 5:45 P.M. Wind was south at 10 to 20 mph & 50 degrees out. What a great day to be out temperature wise. Some of the crows were coming in in formation, not strung out 50 yards behind one another. When I had a setup where three were together I would pop the middle one first, then the one on the right so if the third bird broke hard to my left it would make an easier shot since I am right handed.
In my last three hunts I have shot 934 crows with 1,337 trap loads.

Sometimes I say to myself (when I rush to try and wipe em all out) " I hope nobody was watching" when I pull a blunder and rap off 3 or 4 rounds and never cut a feather.
When I am going for multiple kills it helps me to kill the first bird with the first shot. If I blow the first shot then you are already coming from behind and having to rush that much more. The first shot is usually the best one you are going to get so when you blow it it puts pressure on the shooter.
If you have birds coming in one or two at a time you will always shoot better than the fast & furious shoots where you can't keep the gun loaded fast enough.
