Hi Jerry,

Perhaps, but it will come in December for sure.

I will be with Dick when it happens.

The area out of state where it will occur is an area that Big Honkers hunts as well as the guy who killed 513 with his partner a few years back. If we happen to be all in the same area at that time we will have a big dinner party together to celebrate. They might request that there faces be blocked out so nobody recognizes them, LOL. Every one knows me no matter where I go because of Crow Busters and the DVD's on crow hunting.

The Finger Lakes region is very nice.

Flocknocker,

We can blur your face (if a photo is taken) so nobody can recognize you at the dinner party.......... if I reach my goal.

I would guess that Richard Simmons and Obama would get along nicely. That would make for a memorable photo.

Just imagine all of the crows you shot in one place. The ground would be pure black.

150,000 dead crows..hmmmm...let's see now, assume a kill ratio to shells shot at .75%, that works out to 200,000 shells, divided by 25 per box = 8,000 boxes of shells @ 5.00 per box = $40,000.00!

I know the ammo companies love you Bob, but could'nt you find something else more civil, productive, socially acceptable to do with your money! Like make a contribution to my 401K?

That also works out to 75 tons of dead crows, at one pound each...what a damm mess!

Anyway, when you reach 150k, you will celebrate! Don't blame you!  A premature congratulations to you!!!!

Ken Crow

PS...why don't you have your 150K crow mounted? I would.

Ken,

My old crow hunting partner Jim Lundquist (we hunted from the late 1970's to 2000) used to tell me I had to much time on my hands when I would do just exactly what you just did! I used to figure the amount of tons of crows and shot expended over the years year's back. Over all my average is somewhere between 72 to 74 % over the entire season. Some shoots carry better averages than others depending on wind, weather and how much pressure they have had before you had a crack at them.

I had a morning hunt a week or so ago (first one of the season) where the birds were never touched yet. I had one of the best averages of my life on that particular hunt. They came in just one or two at a time with just a slight south breeze of 5 to 10 MPH. I killed 118 with 125 trap loads that morning.

Many years ago I had an afternoon shoot (all 20 gauge in those days) where I killed 99 crows with 106 20 gauge skeet loads. Here again these birds were never touched until they ran into me that afternoon. That was about 15 minutes from my home in Hutchinson back in the late 1970's.

I might have me mounted after I shoot my 150,000 bird LOL.

Hey you forgot gas! On average I will go through $ 2,000 very easily on crow hunts during the season, some years it's much more! It just depends on what state or states I am in during the season.

This is kind of off the subject but worth mentioning for any one reading this about crows. When crows land down wind of you and do not come into gun range (just sit in the trees) it's a sure bet that they have been worked over by some one else with an e-caller.

Ken, it's been fun talking with you.

Ken,

Here are a few more stats for you:

Not including this season.

In 39 seasons I have been on 1,476 crow hunts.

The total with guys who shared the crow blind with me over the years comes to 222,959 crows in 39 seasons.

At the end of last season I shot 209,161 hulls at crows for 147,274 crows. That is almost 71% for the overall average.

Are you still writing outdoor articles on hunting?

Simple math says:

209,161 shells at 1 oz = 13,072 lbs or 6.536 tons of lead.

209,161 shells at $.25 / ea = $52,290

$52,290 / 39 years = $1340 / yr...

Mark,

At current prices for the cheap trap loads is $ 6.50 per box when you can find them that cheap in todays market. At current prices your math is right on the button, I do spend anywhere from $ 1,300 to $ 1500 for ammo on crows each season.

When you factor in gas, motels, food, out of state licenses plus maintenance on the four wheel drive it ain't cheap. But if you love it you just do it if you can afford too.

I agree. Ammo is only a part of the cost...  but the pleasure one receives from dropping a crow is worth every dime...

Bob,

That is a lot of crows that you have killed over the years. How do you do it? Any secrets to share?

Master,

I try to find areas where there are no other crow hunters hunting the birds! If you even have one guy hunting in your area it makes a difference.

And where they are not disturbed by other types of hunting or excessive human presence of any kind either- that is what happened here!

I will start a new thread within the next few days with photos of the celebration dinner for reaching my 150,000th crow in 40 seasons.

All crow hunters were at the table! They range in age from 30 to 79.

Flocknocker did a great job making up a poster for the dinner!

Big Honkers was his usual self, reserved, not like the rest of us hillbilly's! Brian took the photo of me holding the poster with a large crow on it and it had 150,000 underneath it.

I ran into Gimminar in another state this week, very nice young fella. We got together on what general area each would be hunting each day so as not to screw each other up. Things work out better if you can work together instead of against one another.
