I don't recommend shooting them with a .410 unless you can get them in to about  and within 50 feet believe it or not. I used to buy ammunition and ask:"What size shot is good for crows-?" I think the dealer was being polite..he said 6 s but in a.410 you probably ought to be shooting 2s if you must. or even buck shot keeping in mind where those balls are dropping.

Yeah pour choice of guns to take... I usually have my 870 12 g.... but I thought that you could stop 20 yards out from toad kill and get some feeding crows... so my assumption was the short compact little 410 would give me the jump... lol Turns out I'm learning that hunting crows aint like hunting bunnies.... so... well played Mr crow.... I'm learning....

Crows make whitetails and turkeys look dumb. Sure, they have good senses and instincts, but crows have that and are smart.

PA010700.JPGIMO the 410 is a poor choice for most all bird hunting except if in the hands of an expert. With this said my youngest was awarded a brand new 410 this past summer. Somehow he has managed to kill his first 6 crows with this shotgun with only 9 rounds fired if you can believe that. Being a complete novice at wing shooting I feel he did not have a clue what he was doing and thus letting his brain/hand eye coordination do the work. All killed with 2 1/2 inch shells loaded with 1/2 ounce of 9 shot.

Nice looking young lad there Ted, I'm sure you are very proud of him.

What is he, around 11 1/2 or 12 ?

I shot my first crow in the air at 11 1/2 years old.

A .410 is a little lite but I must say I have a model 42 that will peel em out with the best of them. I just don't shoot it much because I refuse to pay the price for the shells. M-12 shooter knows exactly rhe gun I'm talkin about I'm sure. It is the sweetest thing in the world. If I could find a deal on some shells I would love to get it in the layout blind with me. I,m shooting birds in that thing to close to kill most of the time. Lots of ten and 15 yard shots. I had my youngest boy with me the other day and he had a real hard time adjusting. To thos e close ups. The birds get down wind of the spread and come in 10 feet off the ground and when we come up they are freaked. They are so close I swear you can see the surprise on their face. It's to late for most of em.

I remember my early days well-I couldn't hit them at all! I'd go afield with 125 rounds and shoot down only 14..all i did was to educate them! This was at a time when I should have shot close to a hundred!!! Now ironically with an entirely new shotgun I am having trouble all over again shooting them down...!

Early in the season I am cleaning off my rust but after shooting repeatedly I get my timing back. Timing is the key. I had a hunting partner who was an excellent duck shot but he could not hit a crow and he had been shooting years ahead of me! So I told him:"Try cutting your lead" and man oh man he just couldn't miss after that.
