I haven’t been on the Forum much since I posted in DEC about the crow roost seen while traveling on southbound I-75. Reason was that my wife and I were traveling was due to our son’s being afflicted with an inoperable brain stem tumor; diagnosed last May. We’ve spent a lot of time here in GA since then. At one point this fall, it seemed as if the radiation, chemo, and a host of other drugs might be showing some progress. The healing miracle we prayed for was not to be, as he died on 7 JAN, at 38. However God gave us another miracle in the form of the positive effect Franklin had on others during his life, due to his leadership skills, example, heart, and ministry. Yesterday, he was interred at the Fort Benning Cemetery (Columbarium) with full honors. The photos are of him: command photo, at about 210 pounds (he used to press 350), in Iraq (X2) and his family. He never complained during his ordeal and was not focused on “Why me?” He died bravely with his wife, mom and I present, after seeing his three young daughters and the in-laws. The link to the obituary and some photos is at:
Many military from his previous units, USMA classmates, people from his church, the community, and his employer (TenCate), along with an honor guard of the Patriot Riders (Biker Vets and supporters). It was a grand send off for a fine man, husband, father, son, warrior, and devout Christian. Please disregard the part about donations, as they are doing well.
II Timothy 4: 7-8. “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.”
Your son was a fine looking soldier. I often ask myself why? Why do people pass long before there time. Some people say it was just there time, this might be true but to me this is very unfair, but life isn't fair to be sure.
Now you are not only the grandfather but the new father figure for the young kids in your sons family. Do you live close to them?
I really am very sorry for your loss, what a damn shame.
Sincerely,
Bob A.

Thoughts and prayers to your family. It looks like you raised a good man, and certainly should be proud of him. It is always a shame when this world looses good people at such a young age, some things make no sense.
This is a far cry from your normally light-hearted and fun posts. Thank you so much for sharing this part of your life with us. I am sure it was difficult.
I am very sorry to hear of your loss. I blankly stared at your post and pictures for quite some time just trying to grasp the enormity of the situation. You were blessed to have raised such a fine American and may your family be blessed with comfort during these difficult times.
What does one say? A young Army Major, a West Point graduate, an Airborne Ranger, and a combat vet with a beautiful family. A life many can only dream of. I hope all involved find strength to cope with the loss as they go forward. You clearly did a wonderful job raising your son, take pride in that always, it's obvious he was a remarkable young man. He was taken too soon, but it was a true blessing from God such a fine son came into your life, never forget that as you try to deal with his loss.
I am so sad to hear of your great loss and extend my deepest sympathies to you and your family.
In these times of fake celebrity and their supposed courage – politicians, actors, media sensations and athletes, your son is a true American hero.He put himself in harm’s way, at the risk of total personal sacrifice, in service for our country.
Celebrate his life and cherish all of your memories of time spent together.
OA,
My heart goes out to you and your family. Wife and I have a son the same age (USAF) and we can only imagine your pain.
You will be in our thoughts and prayers.

Craig, my deepest condolences to you and family. With this terrible loss we must remember though that you son is immortal as his DNA has been passed off to his three beautiful daughters. I'm sure Franklin was a fine soldier and dedicated father.
Ted

Craig,,,,, I had no clue you had so much to bare. Words can't describe how sorry I am. What a fine looking young warrior. There is no doubt he will continue to lead young soldiers as a ranger for the lord. Be strong brother I only wish there was something I could do. Give those grand kids a hug for me and may the lord bless and keep you all. Thank you so much for raising a son that was so dedicated to serving this country and securing our freedom...
Sorry to hear the sad news .
He was a wonderful man and warrior, take comfort in the fact you will be reunited with him again someday.
I pray for comfort and peace for your family that only the Prince of peace can bring.

Thanks to all for your heartfelt comments regarding my son and his family. Also to you who who PM'd me on the same. From what I read, backed up by what we feel, the wound will never heal, just become a bit easier to bear over the years to come. Praise God!
Craig, I am saddened tonight to have learned about your son's passing. I am so thankful for the men and women that have fought bravely for our country. I'm 39 years old have never served a day in the military but I am fully aware that the freedom I enjoy is owed to families like yours and of course to God. Tonight me, my wife, my 13 year old son and my 10 year old daughter will be able to rest in safety and in peace because of your family's sacrifice. I'm forever indebted to your family and all those that have served bravely. I'm an a Ordained minister and a devout Christian as we'll. I will certainly continue to pray for your family. I'm reminded that the Bible declares that to be absent from the body is to be present with The Lord. Your son is in a better place waiting on your arrival. Can't wait to meet him one day. God bless!! Bob
