MI Fall Turkey season began Monday, nothing at favorite turkey location #1; did see a nice doe that stopped and crossed broadside at 15 yards. Too bad it was not an anterless deer day. Plan B during SEP, of course includes taking the Crow Gun, a couple of decoys, and the Spitfire. The ones that answered on Monday, stayed behind the top of the tree line above me—too smart.
Tuesday, Saw 8 turkeys in two groups at favorite location #2. Watched a hen and 4 yearlings feed for an hour. Did not take out the hen, though I had her in the cross hairs at about 35 yards (I’m looking for big beards and spurs). The other three were way too far. Learned a couple of things that morning. Plan B, Crows: absolutely no answers/action; this, at a location that has usually always produced ones and twos.
Today at the same location as Tuesday; moved a bit N in hopes of getting one of the three from yesterday. Nope. At quitting time, of course, I saw turkeys across the sand pit about 130 yards away. Oh well, it’s a long season. So, I went into Crow Mode. “Plan B” worked today. Some mentally-challenged crows finally found me and they swooped in and kept coming back for about 15 minutes off and on. I set the caller on the roof of the truck, two decoys 30’ from it and downed four with 8 shots (plus another two for walkers). Absolutely no blind or other set up; stood beneath the old spreading oak. Go figure. I’m so pleased that I actually shot one through a hole in the branches—cool. One went down and actually glanced off the side of the truck—just missed the bed. Another had a perfect spiral and hit the ground and never moved. Best crow session so far this season!

Looks like good honest wear on your trusty model 12 Winchester.
That it has, for a 1926 model. I'm the third owner according to the old friend from whom I bought it for $200. The original owner put the Poly-Choke on it during the 50's, thus ruining its "collector value." Just fine with me. I only had to put a firing pin in it. It still has all of its adjustment remaining on the tension screw on the barrel's take-down joint--should be good for another 100 years at this rate of firing. It serves now as my dedicated crow gun. It has a couple of quirks, but I like it; it's like driving a classic car.
Model 12 Shooter recommended it highly while I was considering its purchase a couple of years ago--Thanks to him.

guess my first estimate for this fall hasn't come true as doesnt sound like the migration has hit you yet OA. maybe before the month ends you'll have some bigger numbers move past

Congrats on the crows, Enjoyed reading about the hunts and the Pic's were great! I like the doubling up, sounds like good times.
Your dead on about the 12 being like driving a classic car.
Morning OA. Nice to see you blew the dust out of that old M12's barrel! I'm sure the hunting gods will shine on you soon...and that big tom will pass in front of you! Thanks for sharing....
