Finicky crows.........or, I ain't gonna eat this slop, even if I am a crow!
Other day I threw out some slightly molded white loaf bread to the crows, that haunt a vacant lot beside my house. The crows snubbed it , as if they were on a health kick! Usually, I toss them a slice of whole wheat bread, and they quickly devour it, along with deer corn.
I have always been under the impression that crows will eat anything digestible, without hesitation, if they are hungry. The white loaf bread layed in the vacant overnite, and the next day the crows did eat 1-2 slices. I guess foxes, possums. or something ate the other slices.
I just can't imagine a crow eating days old road kill, scratching through cow **** for grub, etc, and not eating white bread, even if there was a little mold on it.
There are 7 crows that use the vacant lot, and they are out there every day. I named the wild bunch "the magnificent seven". But now I think that I am going to rename them the "nit-pickers"! If I ever catch them in a corn field near my house, I am going to feed them some lead, size 7 1/2. Teach them a lesson about indigestion! Alka Seltzer anyone?
A couple of weeks ago, I posted about a crow in my neighborhood that was breakfasting on skunk road kill of the worst kind--that bird was not finicky at all.
