Pretty Slow On Here, Ain't it?

Hear in Kentucky comes back in Jan 4 though Feb on crows Ohio still has there but just on Fri though Sunday 👍

I found a new hot spot late in the season (so called) here...it doesn't compare with what I knew of years ago how ever but it is interesting. For starters always crows around but there are not a lot of options so I use different techniques and they all work! I don't miss much but there is room for improvement..still getting to know this gun. Going from a pump to an automatic is quite the change in my book...I don't miss much because I am picky about my shots...sorry no camera..too much "junk" to lug out there...there is nothing like getting along a flyway to a roost without disturbing the roost by keeping a respectful distance...another was a handicap, it had been shot before so many crows travelled the ridgeline before turning west into the rest. The ones who came directly on i was able to shoot at. Unfortunately they came in small groups so I was forced to educate more than i would like....luckily all the hawks stayed to the east so they didn't hurt me too much. Crows always attack hawks and Bald eagles here and this attracts the crows leading them away from me so if nothing else i get quite the dog fights...and they are not about fun and games either...a good crow peck and that'll down any hawk or a hawk could grab a crow and don't think they won't!
One thing I noticed crows eat this time of year is tons of cow patties...if a field is covered in that ; the crows often come.
So how is your shooting going? getting many?
The amount of time i got out this year I did better than last year but hardly anything to brag about but enough for anyone to laugh about...!

I haven't even been yet! Season closes Feb 22 here in AR, so I still have a few weekends if I drag my lazy arse out and go. No doubt they'll be some educated buggers though.

Hadn't been crow hunting in years, my youngest Son had destroyed my old Johnny Stewart years ago. So last year I bought a new Hellfire caller, got the Benelli shotgun that's set in the safe unfired since new 10 years ago out and gave it a try. Just as much fun as years ago when I went every opportunity. Still have no trouble getting permission to hunt about anywhere I ask.

Need to pick up a "beater" vehicle to use, can't stand driving my present pickup (Silverado SS) on gravel backroads. Want to find a Jeep Cherokee with 4L six cylinder to use for hunting and everyday back and forth to work.

The postings here dont move as fast as other forums you may be familiar with.

....but we dont have near the amount of drama as other forums either. I like that.

We hunted them early Fall til end of Oct. Then it was time for Turkey, Bear and Deer season's. Next week is the last week of our muzzle loader deer season, plan to chase some crows after that.

Not crow related: But since it's "pretty slow." My buddy sent me this and asked for identification.. i'm thinking coyote or coon.. it's loaded with persimmon seed and "grass" measures 13/16" in diameter..So what do you boys think?

Talk about diversions from crow hunting!

I've no degree in Scatology, but first of all, it looks like poop bleh ; it seems so from the familiar tapered end.

Looks like its on the mend ( that's why it's tingling ) but I would trim the nails, can't be to careful you could get an infection.

BH, years back I injured my finger similar to yours.. An old guy I worked with looked at it and said " you need to stick that in cider." I assume the acid from the "cider" has some medicinal properties.

Went on a good shoot the other day. Real good. During set up I tripped and fell on the corner of my ammo container. The corner caught me right were I place the butt of the shotgun. I shot a lot and I think it made the bruise worse...

BH: I found a picture of my finger I nearly sliced off 2 years ago while putting down some shingle.. I was in a big hurry ( as usual) and I was cutting an architectural shingle with a utility knife... It went to the bone.. Almost sh$i my pants.. wrapped it up with a napkin and electrical tape and kept going..

Squirrels raise incredible havoc with birds, the nestlings and even the eggs....chipmunks are like cute rats in behavior..they are actually well dressed rats! I hate them but they taste incredible! Better than deer, moose or ring necked pheasant!

I'm from the south and folks down here eat almost anything but this is the first time I have heard of someone eating chipmunks, and that they taste real good. I need to hear more about this if you don't mind sharing info on the subject.

I never ate them but I bet they have to be as good as squirrels...you might have to shoot 3 dozen to get a dinner though...I eat gray squirrel myself...and I only know of one man who dedicatedly hunts them!

OA,

Ted's adventures have motivated me to get things in order for the fall. I have loaded 15 flats of shells so far and sent the caller back to Fox Pro for some service and have been doing some other crow related things. All the rain we've been getting has helped, keeps this up and we may need an Ark, but the crow stuff will be in top notch shape come fall!
Kinda reminds me of what my Dad use to say, "do what your supposed to do when your suppose to then you can do what you want to when you want to". Good memories. smile

I love the Canadian crow shooting reports...very interesting!
In fact think I am going to stock up on more steele shot for Vermont...yes it is weird...the Connecticutt river offers no opportunities to shoot any crows...or waterfowl except on the Vermont side where there is always plenty of waterfowl..ducks of every kind it appears...and little if any crows except in the areas where you cannot shoot them due to excessive human habitation and posted land...

Squirrels will eat practically anything. People see them and think 'oh how cute!" yeah but that "cute' squirrel just wiped out your cardinal nest the day before..and this self hating crap about "nature"...we ARE 'nature" too! You keep your squirrels and i'll keep the birds! Black and white warblers are the most nuthatch like bird bereft being a nuthatch i ever saw!
Squirrels will wipe out any nesting birds they can find..the chipmunk will snag birds eggs too.."Oh how cute..aaawwww"...baloney!

If mosquitoes were "cute' no body would harm them...
Geese are a huge problem in this area(the northern farmlands) and worse in upstate New York...cute huh? The crop damage and bomb runs are pretty bad..one rest area locally you could not walk on...and that was from a local flock of about 25 geese! I cannot imagine having thousands like upstate new york!
"Cute" indeed..people think wild animals are stuffed teddy bears running loose...and bears rip down bird feeders and throw trash everywhere...I've seen it and so have you rural folks...the trash man might not get to it in time!
The old dumps kept the skunks and raccoons and bears out of the towns..well...the tree huggers made sure we could hit these animals so....Environmental" Protection" Act it was called...
And back to crows...this farmer loved me to shoot his crows but nobody can ever seriously annihilate the crow populations...I never made a dent in it...the local population..not even close..some one shooting hundred crows in a day in the midwest hasn't done a thing except buy the farmer a week or so to get his peanuts or corn off the fields...

OK. Here's what I saw while deer hunting on Sat.: Nuttin but nutters - nice big ones, however. Could have had a pot of 4 big fat fox squirrels if I had had a suppressed .22. BTW, note the difference a few days make around here. Photo #1 was last Monday when the turkeys paraded by only hours after deer season began and turkey season had ended. Same tree in the distance about 20 yards, now covered with snow. Nutter marked by the arrow. My doghouse blind in a deer "hot spot" - right. We survived the first "blizzard" of the season. Rain tomorrow, eh.....big deal.

69 days and a wake-up to 2016 MI crow season, 1st half!

Big Honkers must have some new input. Waiting.
