I bought an A5 off of gunbroker to be my dedicated crow gun. Just wanted a beater but I got a decent deal on a 1987 Jap Magnum with a 28" invector barrel. I was going to have the whole gun dipped but decided the bluing was in too good of shape to dip it. So I decided to buy the adhesive gunskin kit in black reaper pattern. I think the crows are gonna fall out of the sky from shear terror. Any way the gunskin is removable with minimal residue left behind. Dipping the gun would have destroyed the furniture on it. I like the way it turned out so don't bash me too hard.

Only got 15 this morning. Has anybody noticed if crows stay higher on clear days vs cloudy? It was clear and sunny and we were having to shoot them high.
Myself i can tell you owl decoys work great around here despite the contradiction by Bert Popowski.(said a great horned owl in this area (New England)was treated like bump on a log or something)...times have changed..maybe they weren't too good in his time but I guarantee you they work...i can imitate a great horned owl and the barred owl and the crows will respond. So anyways i hope apparently you made a good choice with that owl too. Hey if it gets too shiny? You go to any hardware store and put flat clear spray paint on it and no more shine...years ago I had to put the owl in the shadow of a large tree but it worked!
(PPsssttt-now Guru Bob I am not trying to discredit Mr Popowski...he after all lived in Iowa and probably didn't spend that much time to see differently in New England with great Horned owls but i emphasize no one can go wrong using one such decoy if they have Great Horned owls in their neighborhood! They are "devastating" along a crow flyway towards a roost!)
I have yet to buy an owl decoy. I think I will now. Thanks for the shine tip. The one I saw at a nearby Bass Pro seemed a little shiny. I, though, can't imitate a owl. Guess I'll be looking for a good call to try.
