Happy to be on assistance, Bob... We had to get permission from Varmint Hunters Magazine to post this piece and they graciously provided that to Skip earlier this afternoon...
Gadget: Thank you for posting this!! And thanks for kind comments from my fellow crowbusters!! Suffice to say, the events described in the article depict perhaps one of the finest crow "outings" ever experienced by this senior crow guy. Clearly, it was the best "single day... or single half day"with me vs. crows solo! I consider the hunt with Professor Aronsohn back in 2002 when we massacreeeed over 1500 crows in slightly less than 6 days my premier multi-day de-crowing adventure. I review those pictures often! Thanks again, Bob.
I am no writer.. but I do have enthusiasm and to those who actually read this, I suspect it shows. What I did not include in the article was the diapers I had to use wiping the slobber off my chin!!! I wish for every crow guy, that at some point in their crow endeavors, such a memorable event present itself to you even when you least expect it.. as was the case with me and the "Pecan Lady" that morning!!

PS: Can you believe the size of that Pecan Tree? She has 8 of them in her backyard!
Heart warming and incredible...better hope and pray her successors don't mind you shooting crows either!
North carolina is one of the last states I expected any kind of numbers in! Wow!
MD: We have lots of crows! N.C. raises lots of pecans...and peanuts both are opium for crows. We do not have flyways... at least to my knowledge but occasionally, you can find situations like the one in my article. I was lucky, pure and simple. Am eager to return there this October, when the pecan ripen!!
We don't have that kind of crow activity around here but we had quite a few. I wish the 70s were back as if i could shoot half ways decent like i can today although I love making fun of myself I could rake in some numbers...I shall never see that again. Too many changes the worse one being a lack of crows. There is plenty of food for them but they don't stop by. I don't know why as the land is posted, I guess when they went to recycling centers there was nothing to hold them here ..uh..there...but hey-have a ton of fun! I hope you never run out of ammo. that isn't fun at all!
Does NH have crows? Oh yes we do! Not like NC though. However, most of the land they are very numerous at is posted. I mean crows like i've never seen before! So enjoy it while you can!
Don't sell yourself short on not being a good hunting story writer. I have read several of your articles, and I will "toast" you that they are well written, exciting, interesting, and include peripheral nuance that brings full exposure to your subject material.
I have been writing since 1988, but I usually write technical articles about guns and shooting. But I have written hunting stories also that were well received.
I'm curious what your second best day crow hunting, solo. is? My best day in N.C. solo is 102.
Now, if you will just e-mail me and tell me where that big pecan tree is......?
What a great article! And what a fantastic hunt, too! You have written about the "Pecan Lady" in the past, but it was like meeting her and spending time with her after reading the story.
Keep up the great writing and wonderful hunting!
Demi

I think around here as so many pass through likely a good sized hill shooting up through the trees might have to be the norm?! Not ideal but from point A to point B there are stretches of forests and I wouldn't have to lug out any decoys and just get in shape for those steep hills! Too many crows getting by not to consider this!
Only one or two in this state is actually getting a hundred bird shoot during peak times so ...hhmm....better than nothing...things to think about!
