Man I was hoping to tell a great Huntin story of lots of birds and carnage with pics of the "cart of death" over filled but it was not to be. Son, Grandson and I shot a picked cornfield that was holding a good many crows, at first light we heard a fair number wake up and leave for better food. Only had 10 in range and 8 hit the ground. So starting this early probly won't be in our future plans, still hot and birds are moving as soon as a new field is harvested. They won this one but the war has just started. On a positive note got a little rust off, all equipment worked well and set up before daylight went smooth and above all got to spend some more time with the boys huntin.
Sounds as if you had a good plan, but the enemy didn't cooperate. 8/10 sounds real fine to me. However, you got some real quality grandkid time (and knocked down twice as many as I did this a.m.). Also, you're right in that there is no checklist that will replace the first trip of the season to check everything out. Good one!

I saw lots of crows around this past weekend, but I agree, you might have jumped the gun a little bit. If you can find a farmer that has just rolled his peanuts, get on them. If not, I find it best to wait until about the 2nd weekend in Oct before I start here in Bama.

Some of the best shoots aren't necessarily the ones with the biggest kills. Time afield with family and friends can be as rewarding as those with shoots with a hundred crows on the ground... and 10 bandits coming within fair range with only 2 leaving unscathed works for me!
