Right, last mug of tea for the night, then off to bed for some Zzzz's as the alarm goes at 02:00 again.
Then it's up, do the dogs (feed and walk), then the cats (feed), then feed and drink for myself, plus make a thermos of coffee for on the field.
Then at 05:00 start setting up on the field, and all being well my mate will arrive at 06:00 to find everything set up and ready to start shooting.
A nice field of cut barley and a field of cut wheat await our attention, so a nice U pattern of 30-40 pigeons with a rotary magnet of pigeon on each side, and then some corvids spread around 30-40 of them should do it, and a rotary magnet of crow off to one side too.
Then I have three flappers ready for shot birds, along with four bouncers for shot birds, and have two bouncers with crow decoys on
As reserve I have two pigeon flappers with decoys too if needed.
I also have 10 cradles for shot birds too
Now here's hoping for a brilliant day, as corvids and pigeon were every where today right up till about 14-15:00 this afternoon, sometimes several hundred to a flock :)
wish me me luck and straight barrels

Does your friend turn around and head home after hunting with you or does he spend the night? That would make for a long day only having roughly 5 1/2 hours of sleep. It would make a nice trip if he could hunt with you the next morning weather permitting and then head home. It all boils down to how much free time he has since he is still working.

Well, the day started well, on cut and baled stubble, with masses of grain laying on the ground, so the birds were hungry for it. Was set up by 06:30 and first shot fell at 07:06 (didn't want start shooting earlier so as not to upset the neighbours). At 07:0 we had about 10 when it really started to get busy, and by 08:00 we had 40+
HOWEVER, then the phone went, and it was the farmers mum, saying we had to stop shooting IMMEDIATELY, as neighbours were complaining that "shot was falling on the house" !! NO SHOTS WERE FIRED TOWARDS THE HOUSES, but we didn't argue, as it's the farmers prerogative to stop us shooting anytime he so wishes (or his agent, in this case his mother)
SO! We stopped shooting immediately, and watched while we packed up, as flights of 10-20-30-40-50 a time came over, wood pigeons, feral pigeon, and corvids, all flying over, and us not shooting !! By The time we had packed up, and moved to another farm, two hours had gone by.
We set up on some freshly cut stubble that hadn't yet been baled, but the birds were only interested in the fields that had been baled, and where there was lots of dropped grain to be had. Over the next two hours we managed another 10 birds, but decided it wasn't worth the hassle, so packed up
The person who complained that shot was falling on his house, was, you guessed it, the son of the anti who said we were hitting his house the other day (over 500 metres away, and with wind against us). And yes, his father just happened to be visiting him too today.
Failed to pick about 15-20 birds and this was what we did pick 13 carrion crow 14 jackdaws 3 grey crow 1 rook 10 feral pigeon 2 wood pigeon

No, he heads back home after hunting with me. I pack up, head home, walk and f ed the dogs, feed the cats, and then have something to eat and drink myself LOL
then this afternoon my No1 gun dog has to go to the vets, to have her stitches out if all is well, as last week (10 days ago) she had a breast removed as there was a large ping pong ball sized lump on it.
Then tonight, about 00:00 I will probably go fox hunting :)

Many years ago (in regard to your post about the anti) I had the sheriff's department show up because a guy called in a complaint. Turns out he was just a renter on the property that I had permission to shoot on. They asked if I had permission to hunt? I said yes, "I can give you his phone number if you want to call him" they said no and left; and I kept shooting.
It was getting almost as bad as you have it when I lived on Long Island, New York back in the 60's and 70's. I made a choice, I packed up and got the heck out of there in 1974 and moved to Kansas; best move I ever made.

Some people use lamps, but I mostly use NV with IR, as I find it much more effective, due to poachers making the foxes lamp shy (shooting at them with lamps and then missing them. Next time they see a lamp they run)
