Crow Shooting in Ireland

Hi Folks,

I've been a long term reader of the forum but this is my first post. Thanks for all the great advise and info which is always inspiring me to improve my crow hunting setup.

Myself and a few friends do a lot of crow shooting. I love to take beginners, young folks and family friends out to try give them a taste of the sport. Because of this my mates have nick named me Graeme Reid Hunting and Fishing Tours!!! Most of our shooting is done over decoys with magnets and flappers. All of our shooting is done on local farms who are having trouble with crows eating and soiling cattle feed. My best morning to date was 400 crows on the ground before ten thirty!!

My wife bought me a go pro as a Christmas present last year and I have been using it to document some of my hunts.

Here's a link to our latest hunt where myself, Brian and Trevor got 111 crows before heading to work for 9a.m.!!!

Graeme,

Very few crow hunters ever have a 400 plus bird crow hunt. Outstanding!

On average how many crow hunts do you get each season where you shoot 400 or more?

Thanks Boba,

400 was our best ever. We also had a 347 in a morning and a 200 plus morning.

Last year we had 9 100plus days and 6 hundred plus days this year so far (although i did less shooting this year due to the birth of my daughter)

Last year we shot over 1800 crows for the year.

We usually do one shoot per month with may and june being busy months where we usually do 2-3 hunts per month.

The dairy farm where we do most of our crow control feeds meal all year round which attracts plague proportions of crows. The secret is being there before dawn to get them flighting in from their roosts for their first feed. Hungry crows are a lot less wary!!

What sort of shooting do you usually do? What would be your average?

Never take them to your favorite spots or your percentages greatly decrease!

Greetings Graemer,

Our average last season was (for myself and my one partner) 173 crows per hunt. This was on 36 crow hunts for the season. We had 17 hunts over 100; another 9 hunts over 200; 2 hunts over 300 and 2 over 400.

If you go to the bottom of the Home Page there are about a dozen different crow hunts that you can view for free.

Last season I shot 3,605 crows. My partner shot 2,628 crows.

Here are some photos I think a guy like you will enjoy.

A dumb question for you Bob; where did you set up your decoys in the first two photographs and how many decoys did you use and what calls did you use?

Tom,

The first two photos were of the same shoot, just taken from a different angle.

I just used the single excited crow call and started out with 10 Carry-Lite crow decoys on the ground.
