Solo hunter and first time crow killer. What a blast (pun intended). First attempt at crow hunting this morning, first attempt at any bird hunting honestly. I was using a Flextone Vengeance e-caller and some Classic decoys. The e-caller worked some magic. The crows were flying in from everywhere and out of about 12 attempts I managed to kill 4 with my 1953 Winchester Mod 12 full choke (fixed) and harvested the breast meat. I'm going to wrap those suckers in bacon. Now to learn how to use a hand caller...mad skills. Any recomendations
I had a bonus coyote encounter this morning too. So there I was in the backwoods near the property line adjacent to a neighboring field. I spotted a coyote just loitering out there so I switched my e-caller to "female howls" to see his reaction. He peeked at the sound and came trotting my way then disappeared as soon as he spotted me (or smelled me).
Great report Meatmarket. Nice to hear of those old M12's still knocking crows from the sky! As for the yote...I've had them come into crows fighting sounds.

Aaand, that's the second close interaction I've had with a coyote in the same spot in the past three weeks. Im looking forward to brain-tanning a coyote pelt.
I just happened to have a box of Winchester heavy target load shells on hand, so that's what I was using on the crows. 2-3/4" 1-1/8 oz 8shot. I'm not as experienced in shotguns as I am rifles so I don't really know what shells are best for crow. Any pointers?
Welcome aboard and a good report! As for the hand calls, you cannot do better than a call made by Darrell Gibson in NC. They not only sound the best, but they are true eye candy! The Crow Mart attached to this forum has some of his calls. Here is the link:
