Great video with some awesome photography!!  Those are definitely some good times!  A couple of reactions/comments:

1) That kayak(?) seems a bid worrisome, particularly considering the water temperatures and amount of clothing no.  Not me at my age!

2) Awesome sunrise photos... Read Matthew 16:2-4

3) When can we expect to see a sequel of your crow hunting adventures?

Fantastic post, Bayman!

Demi

Larry, I just viewed your film clip, you had some very nice still shots, the lighting in them was pretty good. I see you also hunt out of a layout rig on the open water, I never hunted ducks like that; only out of a duck boat or a floating blind.

I see you shoot Brant, Surf Scoters, and I could not tell if the other species was the White Winged or Black Scoters in your still photos.

In the film footage (video) segment I saw some Goldeneyes, Buffleheads and Brant flying around. Hey, do you eat those Mergansers that I saw in your bag limit? I used to shoot them for target practice when things were slow many years ago.

Dick my crow hunting partner says he has eaten coots and mud hens in Saskatchewan and they were prepaired by an old Canadian. Dick said they tasted pretty good, it all depends on how you cook them.

Larry, is your kayak and lay out boat one in the same? Dick used to shoot Bluebills on Sandusky Bay in Ohio out of a lay out boat.

So how many ducks can one hunter shoot before he fills his limit these days? It can't be just two Bluebills and then you are done, what other species can you shoot to limit out?

A "Baker's Dozen!" What did you do with them (I've never tasted wild duck)?

Ted, your photo brought back some very fond memories.

We used to make duck stew with the breast & legs.

 bob...

sea duck hunts are a mixed bag of white wings...american and surf scoters along with old squaw mixed in....

when we marsh hunt its a mixed bag of everything depending on the weather....puddle ducks like mallards..black ducks widgeon and gadwalls....divers such a bluebills buffleheads and mergansers....brant and canada geese..

my friend owns a layout boat but lives on the finger lakes....thats where i shot the redhead in my profile picture...my kayak is only used to hunt flooded timber as a means to transport...

the mergansers we shoot i use for crab bait...

The daily limit of 6 ducks includes all mergansers and sea ducks (scoters, eiders and long-tailed ducks) and may include no harlequin ducks and no more than 4 mallards (2 of which may be hens), 3 wood ducks, 1 black duck, 2 pintail, 2 scaup, 2 redheads, 2 canvasback, 4 scoters, 4 eiders, 4 long-tailed ducks or 2 hooded mergansers. For all other duck species found in New York, the daily limit is 6.

brant are one a day and canada geese in my zone are 8 a day...

having an 8 bird goose limit is nice....this is a really fun solo hunt i had one morning when the brant limit was two...geese were 8 and ducks six....all in 2 hours in the snow..duckbeatdown.jpg

thank you....nice pile of bills....sadly we do not see many canvasbacks or redheads on long island....there really are only 3 main divers...bluebills buffleheads and mergansers....the buffleheads are thick as fleas down here...and of course we have EXCELLENT seaduck hunting....

heres one of my favorite bluebill hunts...it was the first time in 20 years our bluebill limit was raised to 4 birds....this was on opening morning and my friend and his boss...shot 12 bluebills and 6 brant by 8 am....bluebillsbeatdown.jpg

Hi Larry,

I love the Italian Restaurants in the Finger Lake Region of New York State. The people there are very nice, it's like I never left Kansas!

That is a very nice photo of the Brant and Canadians. I see the black duck, I used to love to pass shoot black ducks.

Talk with you soon.

We have an 8 bluebill limit up here. Canvas and redheads too. Mostly because our birds are not in winter plumage and difficult if not impossible to differentiate on the wing. Waterfowl biologists have been known to shoot a fast limit of bluebills only to find that half are young redheads.
