my crow box with my fox pro in it was stolen this fall out of the back of my pickup bed while i went to pay for gas.... i am in the process of getting a other one but i have two old crow calls that belonged to my friends dad....and was wondering about trying to do it " old school " style with just mouth calls instead of an e-caller....thinking about trying it this weekend and was wondering if any of you use hand calls alone....if so how much to do call to attract from a distance....or do you wait till you have sight line on crows then begin to call...also which calls do you think i should stick with..i would think a rally call and a greeting call would be go to...but any input for this weekend would be help full...thanks in advance
Most of my calling in the first half of the hunt is with hand calls... then my voice box gets tired! It can be done and many professionals (like Jerry Tomlin) only use hand calls.
Listen for any callers who are seeking company. Answer them and get them excited with a feeding call.
Seeking birds from a distance, you should be calling in two or three different directions, then listening for answers. Of course the idea is to issue them an invitation and they need to hear your call first. If it doesn't distort the sound, yell out loud, initially!
The rally call is a great start, but I like to A) Mix up the calls, and B) Mimic the crow(s) that are answering. Once you see them, it's time to back off and let the decoys do most of the work, although a growl or a lower-volume coaxing call can help.
Sorry to hear about your loss. Thieves are real creeps in my book!
Hope this helps,
Demi

If you can access crow calling techniques on the home page you will get easy calls to use. Don't you worry; they actually work! I only use one as I have a credible verbal arsenal indeed !!
I couldn't get this educated bunch in but the calling techniques on the home page added to my crow repetroire'....and it worked! Best to know the entire crow language how ever.....
If you have a hunting partner one always stands guard. Now i don't mean at arms but watches over the vehicle...I do when I do all the time. Now thanks to the influx of cocaine and heroin anything that isn't nailed own and can be sold for a hit isn't going to stick around long!
