10gacrowshooter shared this with me. It's a nice video of a sport we all enjoy. Professionally done and they were having a great time. The old crow hunter was least 80 when this was made, when I Googled his name it looks like he passed away last September at age 83. Seems like he would have been a great guy to share a blind with.

Fully agree. A fine record of what we do to conserve and sustain our slice of the environment; protecting it against "flying rats." It's easily worth watching a few times and sharing. Thanks.

If he is in eastern Tennessee he is in the wrong part of the state. Western Tennessee has the bulk of the crows! But he is enjoying himself and that is what counts.
the guy with the double didn't look to burnt out shooting the SxS , also no shoulder pain with the hot loads. It all boils down to ,when you know how use a fine tuned SxS and you are a good shot, hunting with one is not a problem! 10ga
Wonderful video...one of the best I have seen! What crow hunter did not salivate over seeing those crows come in hot, straight and low!! I sure did! I could watch that for hours!! What was harder to watch were the two shinning faces in the sunlight complimented by Santa's white beard and reflections off both guns. Far too many of their birds flared before coming into range. The birds clearly saw their lack of proper chammo and ( I fear saying this ) the unnecessary movements associated with constantly having to load the S/S. Plus ( I fear this too ) did you notice the S/S shooter was often out of ammo...missing shooting opportunities or saying "I have only one barrel left" when multiple birds were overhead or incoming. If your goal is the best TBC you can muster and you are in a situation with lots of birds, a double of any sort is a self imposed restriction. I fully understand the enjoyment associated with the use of a "fine tuned S/S" and with 7 1/2 or 8 shot, they can be killers way beyond 35 yards!!!. Good grief, did I really say that!!! I apologize!!!
Skip the guy using the double was paying far more attention to narrating/acting for the video than shooting crows, his focus was on the production not a tbc. He did not seem to be in a hurry to do anything. He had plenty of time to reload after killing a crow with his first shot but he waited until he had fired both barrels. That is not how we do it. As far as crows and the range of them, every video I have ever watched seems to make all crows look like extremely long shots, I'll bet in person they were much closer. I am also pretty sure their cover was deliberately compromised to allow good video of them from the belt up. Things are different when you are being filmed for a TV show, 10ga and I have been there but it was a goose hunt for NH Fish & Game production for Public Television.
I just thought the video was well done overall, better than most, and the old fella who was around 81 was still mentally sharp, likable and knew what he was doing in a crow blind. He also explained why crows should be hunted in a way even most non hunters would understand and could agree with.
A 20ga is not much of a handicap in the right setup with uneducated crows and this comes from a guy who enjoys shooting a 2 7/8" 10ga.

If you are hunting birds with very little to no hunting pressure a 20 gauge works just fine. I have had many shoots over 300 (just me) with a 20 gauge. Some but not that many over 500 with a 20 gauge.
Jerry Byroad shot a little over 500 crows in one afternoon in the state of PA with a 410 gauge using 3 inch hulls in 7 1/2 shot. This was in the early 1980's. He was related to the Fiercobb brothers of Maryland who just hunted crows with 410's back in the 1950's and 60's in Maryland. The Fiercobb brothers were the first ones to wear face masks while hunting crows.
Skip is old enough to have possibly read about the Fiercobb brothers in hunting articles of the day?

Bruce Scott trying to load his weather beaten shot out double trouble couldn't even hold the rounds in-you saw them . Even with his 3 inch thick coke bottle glasses he couldn't see them as he was too rattled from his fist misses. The other fellow did most of the shooting while the now pain ridden bruce scott could hardly lift his old heavy shotgun double trouble so he did most of the commentary as the superior pump drilled crow after crow....Bruce did get one despite having his brains rattled by the antique museum grade old weather beaten passenger pigeon shotgun ready for the shotgun nursing home......i could swear the pump was manned by BobA. in disguise so no one would get too jealous!!!

Great video and thanks for sharing... I like that they built their blind the afternoon before. Prepping the battlefield for action, as Skip would say!
Like Skip noted, they certainly needed facemasks for "flare control". The best I have found are the QuikCamo caps. Texas Matt and I use camo'd guns, too. Gives us the "racer's edge".
That was a great video of a nice relaxed crow shoot. That gentleman with the 20 double has many more shooting shows called that Shotgun Journal. He hunts birds across the globe and has some shooting technique instructional videos as well. Crows flaring were evident as stated but I feel lighting is very important for good quality filming and thus the blind was situated to allow for this.

Note: When the crow realized it had been hit by a double trouble and not a real mans' modern day technological pump or semi-it decided to just fly away; no double trouble is worthy of a crow funeral....

That place is just a hope skip and a jump from where I live. Cherokee is my home lakes and yes Friday Saturday and Sunday hunting only is ridiculous. A man really should kill them on Wednesday out of spite for stupid regulations.
