Last Friday, 8 days ago: 11 degrees and lots of snow (See the “5.11” hunt report). Today 53 and no snow with a 70 deg. day in-between. Spring is here! Anyhow, another blueberry field, one of six new blueberry properties on which I only this week received permission to hunt. Wow! Most are at least a couple of miles to 5-6 miles apart. Owner is a great guy that I met at the barbershop. So, these new properties simply “fell from the sky.” Networking works.
Anyhow, today’s score was 3 down and 3 missed. Two completely skunked (surprised) me, but one came back for another look and he became #3. J Once again, these guys used to live near a little town and were “townies” so, an extra pleasure in bopping them.
Setup was 360 degree. I didn’t take a photo of the completed blind because I had already begun to tear it down, but it was as nice as the one last week, for which I used the Big Honkers™ white pine bough design. Great!
Today’s big first (field test) was of the auxiliary speaker system plugged into the Spitfire. It consists of a really cheap “200 W” amplifier powered by a 12V gel battery, running two 30 ohm speakers. Awesome sound, but was only able to get one speaker hooked up, due to the sun’s imminent arrival. Still, it put out huge sound compared to the Spitfire, which was also on and contributing. I do have a couple of issues with the new sound system, for which I could use some help from one of you experts out there, but that will be another posting. Another good day.
Just as a note for those of you who might be admiring my “high TBC”: I’ve come to a few conclusions after four years since being introduced to the Crowbusting Game. One is that around here, the locals are just that, small family groups separated by two or three miles. There are no sizeable roosts in my vicinity. Big Honkers probably has a couple hidden away, but being gentlemen, we don’t ask/tell—he’s been scouting the area pretty hard for lots of years so he deserves whatever he’s found. Two is that no matter how good a rifle shot you are (I am/was—see the 50-yard “clean” competition offhand target and SBR gear), it doesn’t necessarily make one a good scattergunner. I’m getting better, but still missing too many. Three, this hobby is relatively inexpensive but complex enough to keep me interested and humble for a long, long time; until I’m no longer able haul all this gear around, so I might as well enjoy it--and I do. I keep telling my loving wife that it could be worse--I could be one of these guys who golfs or spends $300k on gear and a boat suitable for Lake MI, simply to catch a salmon or two.
Great pics but the Mod. 12 pic is just plain good! Congrats on the hunt, the locals or townies down here are tough. Think they have a Masters or PHD anyway they keep me scratching my head. By the way good shooting!
Enjoyed the pics Old Artilleryman. A word on rifle shooting is enjoy it while you're young as someday you'll look thru the scope and you can see you're heart beat in it. The good news is you're alive! I have to shoot on the down beat now. Also liked the Model 12 Pic.

Thanks. I did enjoy it for years while younger. However, cataract surgery pretty much cancels out iron sights which is why the 24X Unertl Programmer 200.
