As some of you may know, I hunt with Jerry "Crow Man" Tomlin every year. It started about 12 years ago and has evolved into an annual event that lasts 8 days (in two 4-day sessions). We base ourselves out of a family-owned property near Aiken, SC and Jerry guides us with hunts in nearby pecan orchards in SC and GA. This is a fun event more than hard-core hunting and we even have had couples hunting the past two or three years.
Each group hunts two mornings and we combine several activities such as crow hunting, shooting sporting clays, fishing, fine dining and we even will partake in a moderate amount of adult beverages. It is a formula that has worked well for us, and there is now a long waiting list as many of my friends want to return every year to take one of the (too few) available slots.
This year started out well and now that "Part A" has ended, I have a few pictures to share. As mentioned, we are in it primarily for the social and fun aspects, so we have 4 hunters in the blind (plus Jerry) and don't worry too much about the numbers. We will sometimes even stop early in order to make it to the sporting clays facility at a reasonable hour. A couple of highlights this year: A fish crow with lots of white on the underside of his wings, and one common crow with large warts on his feet. The daily count for the first session was 31, 41, 66 and 48 for a TBC of 186 crows. "Part B" of Crow Week begins in mid-November.
We all had great fun and now have lots of memories to share. Crow hunting can be an enjoyable social activity when done right!
Good to relax and keep fun in the sport, crow hunting is hard work. I've gotten way to serious and started whining about conditions and numbers killed. Thanks for reminding me that there's more in this endeavor to enjoy. Now to your hunt and pics, sounds like a great time was had with good shooting to boot, Congrats on a very successful "Part A" Crow Week and look forward to "Part B"
And great pics!
