A good solo hunt for NH today

Hunted almost all day today from a single stand.  Weather was mostly cloudy with a west wind at 10 to 20 mph with a few 30 mph gusts.  Shooting started slow but really picked up in the 10AM to 1:45PM window.  I ended up with 66 birds down for 105 shells.  The highlight of my day happened at 1:30 when a long strung out line of birds came from the west and shot 20 birds in a steady shoot, load, shoot, load fashion.  This was a real good day by NH standards.

nh,

Great report and congrats on a great solo day! Set up looks choice and the blind is "killer" as you already know. You and others put me to shame on the photo's as those are very well done. By the way what gauge Double were you using.?

NH,

Great report & pics. Looks like a great spot to just sit and watch the world go by.

Nice hunt.

I am not sure how old that blind is but it is at least 15 years old, it gets a facelift each year. Gun was 12ga double, 28" tubes IC and M. Big Honkers it was a nice spot to spend the day, I did not think of it until your comment but I never saw another person the whole time I was there. That was nice and a good thing when you are crow shooting.

Mid morning to mid afternoon certainly peak migration hours in your region. Well done.

How many decoys did you use? Just curious. I only have 8, and am wondering if I should consider more.

Matt I carry 6 with me, that leaves room in the GI duffle bag for a piece of burlap, extra clothing like a sweater, small stool and thermos.  10ga takes 6 with him also.  So our hunts have either 6 or 12 in use. In my years of hunting crow I believe that is enough for where we live and as you know the dead pile up and add to the spread as the day goes on.  I think 8 is good enough.

Reloads of 1 1/8 and 1 ounce of lead #6 with an 1150 fps + or - muzzle velocity.

Hey. I went out in NH today as well. Being a new guy I fired on 4 birds and knocked one down. The only gear I have so far is an E-caller and a shot gun. Plan to get more stuff as $ permits. I am a coyote hunter mostly.

I think I missed the other birds do to my shot spread. I was using modified in my 12 gauge. I will try full tomorrow. 7 1/2 shot low brass..

But you are right, weather was great but a little breezy here south of Manchester. I was hunting a power line stretch.
Hopefully tomorrow will bring me more birds!

Great pics By the way.

Your photos look good, very pretty country!

I like your makeshift blind it looks like something that Dick and I would construct.

duck wyatt...i have noticed....smaller spreads with quality decoys(flocked) has been working better then bigger spreads with plastics...

i run between 6 to 8 flocked decoys....and works well
