According to this article a biologist in PA reported there were 25,000 crow hunters taking 200,000 birds in that state. I doubt very much there are 25,000 crow hunter in the entire country! Four birds per hunter, I think that estimate is way off base as well.
What is your guess on how many folks are crow hunters in PA? I'll bet it's fewer than 100.
I'm inclined to agree NHCrowshooter...no way..to begin with crows are difficult particularly for the newbie...it is said only about 27 or so went to Ft Cobb in its' hey day...I don't think there is more than possibly twelve tops here in NH...just guessing based on postings by the handful in the Concord region meaning with 25 miles of Concord and you would know approximately from your Holderness class some time ago.....

I think it would depend on a persons definition of "crow hunter."
In a poll a person could easily describe themselves as a crow hunter even though they have not actively pursued a bird in a good number of years. Or, for example, they could be a duck hunter who jumps at the opportunity to take a crow if given.
I would agree there may not be many crow specialists like we all are here, however, I would guess the number of recordable hunters is much higher than we think.
For example, I can think of 13 other hunters in just a 25 mile radius around my home who have taken birds on a legitimate crow hunt in the last 3 years or less. And those are just folks I know, so the true number is most certainly higher.
While 25,000 PA hunters does seem like a lot, I'd guess the true number is closer to 25,000 than it is to 100.
I don't advertise the fact that I do-tell you that much. The looks i get are academic and most unwelcome....! The discussion can be hostile too so I say F*** them!!! Let them go hug their F***ing teddy bear!

Yeah I would believe that number more the the nation then one state. I haven't met a single person who hunts them yet.I have been at it religiously for a few years now and when I tell people about it they all cat believe there is even a season for crow let alone people who go after crow as a game animal. I get where top cat is coming from as far as the heated discussions go. I have had several people try and look down on me for crow hunting (usually duck hunters) but that's an extremely easy argument to win. Most of the time people just laugh at me until they finally come out and try it then they are hooked. Both my brothers did for the first two years and now they both like it and my little brother is hounding me to go again.
