Likely it was gummint $$, which is not "real money" to those in D.C. Such studies are interesting and contribute to the volume of knowledge, but its useful application to controlling vermin such as our targets, in my opinion, is dubious at best. Grant receivers such as these who study "cuddly" animals such as polar bears, pandas, penguins--those that can be readily converted into Hollywood characters (Heckle and Jekyll?) make the big buck$. How someone studying crows makes money (unless it's a few of our brethern in the sporting sales division of Crow Land--and I appreciate them dearly), is beyond me. It's partially due to the human desire to anthropomorphize critters.
Definition of anthropomorphize(anthropomorphized, anthropomorphizing)
transitive verb: to attribute human form or personality to
intransitive verb: to attribute human form or personality to things not human
My $0.02 I'm getting ready to de-animate Bambi's father tomorrow morning if a mentally-challenged (non-braniac) buck happens to walk within range--last chance for this year.

No comment but I wonder if we can get a grant to study the people that do these kinds of studies?

You've got a great point there. However, Rush has already performed this noble service to the Nation for free, by defining and exposing liberals/statists/"progressives"/socialists/ communists and other totalitarians. God bless him!
Edit: I just had to add this picture from the American Thinker website, where I just took a look with my pre-deer-killing coffee, and almost spewed.
