Pete, my usual shooting buddy has a dove field near his house that he has been watching for awhile.  Dove season ended a few weeks ago, but for some reason he didn't seem too interested in shooting the crows.  He always waits until after the dove season to shoot, but this year he said there were "only 50 crows" that come in every morning.  He said it wasn't worth going after them, so he told me to go on my own.

Last week I had a last-minute cancellation on another potentially good field (crows got spooked and left), so because I was all loaded up anyway, I built the blind at Pete's field instead.  I tried to talk Pete in shooting with me, but he was suffering from a cold.  My backup was a sporting clays shooting buddy who was interested in seeing what crow hunting was all about.  We met this morning and had a try at Crow Shoot.

Expecting maybe 15 or 20 birds, we were pleasantly surprised by the numbers.  More importantly, they came in small but steady groups.  In addition, both of us were "On" relative to shooting and both of us made some fun shots.  The hunt ended by 10:00 but we were able to shoot 43 crows.  It was a pleasant surprise.  After cleaning up the blind, etc., we stopped by Pete's house.  I told him we left him 7 of his group of 50 birds!

The takeaway?  Sometimes when you least expect it, good things happen in the crow blind!

Demi

Demi,

You've got a point, my problem is "high expectations" most hunts. Crows don't play fair and have left me scratching my head a lot confuse  Congrats on the good hunt and look forward to the next adventure.

Butch
