Nice idea but when it comes to crows the 1 1/8 ounce Hi-Bird loadings are 125 fps faster than they need to be. A 2 3/4 dram reload at 1145 fps when loaded with magnum #6 lead shot will kill them as far as a shotgun can shoot and will be much kinder to one's shoulder.
Thanks NHCrowshooter, you did what I was trying to do! Me and computers just don't mix. I was born too early, and they came along too late.
By the way NH, have you done any pattern testing with your loads of No. 6 shot? What were the results?
Thanks..KenCrow
I have done a little pattern testing and 10ga has done a lot. It all depends on the gun and the chokes. My old Remington 1894 10ga put 92 to 93% of a 1 1/8 ounce load into a 30" circle at 40 yards. My Remington 1900 12ga puts 72% and 86%. My 12ga Rem 1100 with a screw in IC choke patterned 51%, an Ithaca 51 12ga IC barrel patterned 61%. I would have dig through my computer and find the pattern pictures from several Parkers, but you get the drift, you have to put a shotgun on paper to know what it is doing regarding patterns, choke stampings on barrels do not tell an accurate story.
NHcrowshooter;
This information is hot stuff and I like it. I might try those hi bird loads when I get low.
Another item: you folks don't get too many hikers or other types of hunters where you go? Only one location I know of it is guaranteed until it gets too cold for the walkers and cyclists to distract me. As we both know it is pretty depressing to look across the field and here come some walkers or goose hunters....
