Hello everybody! All around new guy here. Been out of hunting for a long time now and a few months ago picked up a crow call. I wanted to find something that I could do with my grandsons. Well, after going and practicing with the mouth call a few times, I can honestly say that I'm hooked!! To hear and see those boogers coming... Wow! Now to try and find places to go.

"Places to go"...land is at a premium here. For the folks here there was no way for anyone to keep it a secret; all the areas were alongside the road and folks driving by with sharp eyes or pheasant hunters could come right in and that was the beginning of the end. MOst shot at any overhead crows while looking for the pheasants; most of who bailed out to the neighboring woods and back yard bird feeders so the hunters were wasting their time. None the less they presence was like human scare crows. So avoid any areas like that and be careful who you take with you. You might just be birthing a competitor. Here is why; you begin to shoot less and less....I've seen guys out there haunting the area if for no other reason than to get away from their nagging wives needing to max out the credit card just for the temporary fix of getting that new pair of shoes or dress...

Welcome to the forum. You will find that it is a pretty friendly group of posters. A very few number of tolls lurking here to pounce on you if you should say something sophomoric. We are happy to help.
Having said that, you picked a slow time of the year for crow hunting in most areas. That will change in a few short months, however. In the meantime, study some of the older posts & topics, then fire away with your questions!

Season starts here in MD on 8/15 so I've been trying to do some scouting to find areas to go. Not to worry about pouncing trolls, being from Louisiana originally, the Hoodoo Lady has assured me that she has an excellent gumbo recipe for that!

Legends have it in Maryland there's a large number of crows in that neck of the woods. You better always bring more ammo than you think you'll need. One story ran that a good knowledgeable shot with a .410 killed hundreds but he knew his business well....so they are there!
