A month ago, two of us shot a new pecan orchard site that was very productive. We killed 107 birds and since then, the crows have returned to the point it needed to be hunted again. This time, the owner's friend wanted to shoot so I agreed to take him and another buddy of mine. I set the blind up last night and, considering all work was under truck headlights, I was pleased with the results.
Arriving at 6:30 this morning, we put out the decoys and got ready...for a long wait due to the sea fog that had rolled in. It spooked the birds, so by 8:30 when it started clearing, we had only shot a dozen or so. Shooting crows emerging out of a fog is a surreal and very pleasant experience. I only wish they flew better in socked-in conditions! Once the fog thinned, things picked up nicely, but it did not last long. We shot until 10:30 when all crows quit flying. The TBC was 61 and considering most were shot from 8:30 to 10:30, I was pleased with the results!
An interesting note was that the owner's friend is a very accomplished guy. In addition to earning his PHD and having a successful business, he had a stellar college career of playing football for the USC GamecØcks... In 1951 and 1952! Bobby is now 86 years old and still loves to hunt. This was his first crow hunt and he did very well... as a matter of fact, he almost outshot me! I would welcome him in the blind with me any day!
It was a very enjoyable hunt and I have now gained a new friend along with some great crow hunt memories!

Demi: Fine post and results sir!! Love your blind!! Harvesting 168 birds in the same pecan orchard in a short period is outstanding. Pecans are opium to crows!
