What call or calls hang on your lanyard? I mostly rely on my FoxPro but I still have a hand calls with me. I use a Mallard Tone and a Gibson.
I like Mallard Tone mostly because its a deeper pitch/tone sound. Is it smart to have different tones or pitch? I ask because when I listen to the crows around my house I always hear one or two birds with a higher voice.
I do have a new call made by a guy in California that came from a Predator hunting forum. Its sounds pretty good and it called some crows into my backyard just moments ago. Its pitched/tuned kinda high in my opinion. Its turned from a nice piece of walnut.
Give me your thoughts.

Besides my crow call, I carry a PC3 (rabbit distress call) that seems to work sometimes, and an empty (yes empty) 2 oz glass miniature sample bottle to use as Hooties sound. (I'm hoping the Hoodoo Lady has taken the hint and will have Papa Noel bring a nice Mallard Tone in his Pirogue for Christmas )

I just recently picked up a Faulks C-50 crow call. I really like it. I like it better than my Mincey.
I have never had the pleasure of running a Gibson call so my thoughts may not be the most well rounded opinion but for now the Faulks has earned the top spot on my lanyard.
I was just going through the side pocket on a gun case I have not used in years. I was taking out the screw in chokes for another model shotgun and replacing them with the new chokes to my A - 400 XPlor Beretta that I purchased two days ago. I found the Gibson call I have been looking for for over 15 years! I forgot how good it looks!
Used the Faulks C-50 for years and occasionally send 2 or 3 back for reed work.Very reasonable. I keep one on a short lanyard and another (a little higher in tone) on a longer lanyard so I can get the one I want without looking.
Lefty, I think Im the one you bought the call from? I do tune them a bit high, you can move the reed up a bit to get a little lower pitch. I do find that everyone blows a call different, and will get a higher or lower pitch naturally depending on the person.
A wood mouthpiece does tend to be lower pitched imo, plastic higher and a little more "hollow" sounding. A lot also depend on reed material and how its cut, shapewise I mean. Your going to get a completley different sound from a reed that has a round tip and no taper compared to one that is tapered and has a square tip per se.
I dont look at any of this as good or bad, just different? Crows make so many different sounds, depending on maturity etc. I love to sit and listen to them talk, the number of sounds they make is amazing. Personally I think having a lower pitch call and a higher pitch call on the lanyard is good. Change up is key sometimes. And, who doesnt want more calls? Mark

Mark, funny you mention repositioning the reed. I was out back the a couple days ago doing a little light burning. I had the call I recently bought from you off of Pred Masters. I removed the mouth piece and moved the reed out to see what it sounded like. Hahaha, I moved it to far and got nothing, lol. Those things can be touchy! Long story short, I played with the reed position and to me (ROOKIE) it sounds great. Not quite as high pitched but not as low as my Mallard tone. Im itching to try it out now and the new shotgun choke that recently found its way to my mailbox.
