May your crows always land at your feet......and joy filled holidays and always a Happy Crow year!
On another note; roughly the crows didn't pass through until the season was about over here; and now I am getting-or have been getting-numberrs of crows here and there and now we cannot shoot at them!
I'm down about 75% from last year, and don't have a clue as to what has went on. Lot of things that have happened could have affected the numbers (drought(last yr) hurricanes, warm weather up north, killed them down, had a die off, but honestly I don't have a clue. Going to try some in January but reports are not promising.
How is your season going? I remember you were hoping to set new records, hope you are on track.
Butch, in your opinion do you think there is plenty of feed in your hunting areas for them to eat? If I understand you correctly you are saying that the crows just never showed up but there is plenty of food for them? Do you only hunt in one county in Mississippi or more than one? They could still be in you're state just not in the county you are used to seeing them in.
Actually hunt 8 different counties from the Mississipi line to the Georgia line and food has been good this year. They could be way South close to the coast, lots of pecan orchards there. Will be headed there for a week of R&R on New Years eve and plan on paying close attention to the area and ask a lot of questions. I have wanted to try the area but it's a 6 hr. drive one way, but would be a great 3 day hunt if I can locate enough crows to have some good shoots. One thing I didn't mention was my hunting trips are way down due to lack of birds, I've only crowhunted 7 times and a normal year I would be around 14 hunts by now on average. Last couple years I haven't scouted out new areas because I could count on what I have to have good shooting for my part of the country, well it bit me this year and I'm going to open up some options in new areas hopefully in case this happens again. Anyway good to hear your season is going well and who knows I might get lucky and find them, still have some time left.
The pecan crop has been bad this year here in Bama according to my farmers. Still don't have any birds around. May just be a bad year.
I heard the heat was hotter than usual as there was a drought...do you think this is the case? The crows here didn't start showing up until after the remnants of that stinking hurricane moved on....then they began showing up!
