some pics of my BLONDIE piebald...

I shot this one here in Logan county Oklahoma back in 1999.  yes, a little late on posting but i'm a newbie. Anyway, i had seen it with a few black crows in my area and at first i thought it was a seagull. I realized it was a crow & hoped i would get a chance at it and i did in December of 1999. The guys at work called it the blonde headed crow ! LOL.

I immediately called a local taxidermy & told him what i had. He was in somewhat of a state of shock ! When i asked him why he was so surprised he told me that he was working on another white crow in his shop as we spoke !  He said he was going to talk with some Native Americans to see what this meant.   Kind of like the white buffalo thing.  Nothing became of that other than speculating that there were several hatch lings that were all this color from the area. The other white crow was shot about 15 to 20 miles from me ( as the crow flies ! )

I'm not sure if this is called a PIEBALD,    I kinda like calling it my blonde headed crow.    ps. when we took these pics some crows in the back distance started cawing. NO, i'm not using him for a decoy !!

Congratulations...belated!  Fine specimen. Rare as crow's teeth.

It would be interesting to know if anyone has ever seen, or killed, an all white crow.

That crow looks white with a little black to me.

Very nice trophy, and yes, that is a piebald crow.

Absolutely unbelievable!!!

I have shot a few piebalds, the partial white wing-the primaries near the armpit but for me as well the utterly odd brown spotted crow..really weird!! That was a couple years ago..looked like one in BobA.s' crow museum....

Thank all of you for your compliments, Skip. i have had it hanging in my living room with a couple cape mounted deer. A little more to that, About a year or two after i shot it a neighbor & his wife from down the road came over & she saw it & told her husband that it looked like the bird that used to be seen in their yard. She asked me what it was & where i got it . I kinda beat around the bush on giving her an answer & that's when it sank in & she said ( you didn't !!!!! ) and i said oh yes i did ! she again said that we used to see it in our yard . I told her that she could come over and see it at my place any time she liked ! LOL.
I thought that was kinda funny, She wasn't mad, just surprised.

Camo,

I can't decide if your crow is white with a little black, or black with a whole lotta white!  If I had that trophy, I would name it Newspaper. White and black!

That's a good one Ken. It would have a bit more white but i was using federal duck & pheasant number 5 shot long brass & some feathers flew ! I liked your post on choke patterns, good work !

Camo,

That is an awesome bird and a very nice mount. Congratulations on a fine specimen.

It always suprises me to see how difficult it is to identify a bird without normal color...even on a single colored Crow!

Thanks for the good post (and a great follow up story)!

Demi

Thank you very much Demi , Lefty & Butch. I guess i could say that what i lacked in quantities i made up for in quality . I have to admit that what some of you have bagged in a day i probably haven't done in my lifetime. BUT , with that being said. That's why i became a crowbuster member to see if i can fine tune my tactics. My downside was only hunting my own property. But now with a few friends with deer lease land ( with crows ) i can hopefuly up my counts.

It's amazing that since i'm kinda self taught on crow hunting it's been trial & error for several years. If i had done my homework on crowbusters i could have learned most of it in less than a day !!! Thank you , to all you experienced professionals for sharing your tactics. Paul.

I saw my first piebald crow a few days ago at the dairy farm where I do pest bird control. If it's still here come February I hope to get a good shot at it.

It had brown wings.

Lefty,  It was done here in Oklahoma by Mark Chambers with Artisan taxidermy for a whopping $135  !!  of course that was in 1999.  I have not kept up with him but i bet he's still doing mounts.   paul.

Nice trophy. I've only shot run of the mill blacks, but if I ever get one I'd mount it.
