Hey fellow crow brothers, Long time no post! I see a ton of new handles on the site. I hope some of you remember me. I retired in 15 and couldn't wait to start hammerin them crows on a daily basis or when ever i saw fit. Unfortunately that same fall some guys started following the birds and shooting the roost. It sux to spend all that time and gas money for a month before season just to see it destroyed and wasted the first week of season. It has certainly taken the fire out of something I have really enjoyed for several years. I know it happens everywhere but it devastates a guy when it hits home. Sad thing about it, it wont go away and there is nothing that can be done.
I guess i was doing too much shooting and having too much fun. I did my part, keeping it under my hat but a shotgun going off that much is hard to hide i guess. My opening days and opening week is all i can have for the good shoots and then its a matter of watching the birds re establish just to be busted up again. Sad end to a fun time. I just wanted to thank everyone on this site for the knowledge I received several years ago getting me started in the right direction. The brotherhood and the respect on this site is second to none for us oddballs that have the passion for such an odd sport. I met and made several friends here and done some outstanding trading and swapping of good equipment and superior knowledge. I haven't stopped just slowed down tremendously. I will visit from time to time to pass on what I can and help anybody. Put em on the ground boys!!!!!
When ever I am crow hunting and any body asks "what are you hunting?" I tell them coyotes or pigeons, I keep it on a low profile to preserve some of the areas where only Dick & I hunt. Any body with an e-caller and a shotgun can hurt you as you have already found out.
If the farmer sees a good shoot where hundreds are laying about and asks "how many did you get?" I just say "we don't count em" I never talk numbers to the locals.
When Dick and I are eating in a restaurant and some body asks "what are you hunting" I just tell em "oh you mean the camo I am wearing? I am just hunting a good place to eat is all"

Good to hear from you Chip.
The roost shooting I was aware of around here was done by some one who otherwise knew better! Now here there are not thousands of crows; a typical roost might be 150-200 birds plus a smaller satellitte roost...once it snows the crows by and large split for another area. But it blows when your local roost is shot up.....even if few crows....
Im just gonna have to learn to enjoy field sets i guess. Its my fault Bob. I took one younger guy and he is the one that got a group together and is burning my roost's. I just hooked up with another younger dude who I advised to join this site. This kid is got the fire and is a good shooter. He has sense enough to respect the birds. not sure what his handle is on here but I think hes gonna make a good one. Very good learner and ask the right questions. I had a great opening week until they busted my roost. opening day I put 107 on the ground in about 50 minutes. Reminded me of how it used to be. 4 days later they were gone somewhere else to try and establish again. Usually waterfowl season comes in and the roost shooters concentrate on ducks. But season is out now and they are following the birds again. Oh well live and learn.

After so many years a partner started dragging along new bies who coincidently the already iffy shooting went rapidly extinct! I was
not consulted at all...well you know so long as there trees there will be plenty of fire and you can guess the rest!
