That's awesome !! Good luck on the lawn darts, in all fairness the smaller size tires should yield more points ! sorry to hear of the loss of a hunting buddy. ENJOY !
Isaac and I had a pretty good day Saturday. It started out at 17 below zero F*. Hard wind out of the west. We did manage to stay warm, Isaac brought a half gallon thermos of hot coffee and I had a propane burner in the blind with a pot of venison-sausage chili going through the day.
We killed between 50-55. The crows seemed to be stupid for the first time. After shooting into the flock several times, they would circle back and we'd shoot again. This happened multiple times throughout the day, I've never had this happen before. All I can think of is that nobody has hunted there in over a year. Mix that with the cold temps forcing the crows to eat near us. The farm was spreading manure for the first hour or so. They were spreading everything in the field right in front of our blind. Not all within range, but close enough that when they came in circling to land, they were presenting us with a shot. We did not shoot our best, not even close. We are both rusty at shooting flying targets right now, neither of us have hunted waterfowl in 2 or 3 years and we didn't hunt any crow last year. We should have easily killed twice that amount.
Another surprising thing was that my truck was less than 50 feet from the blind. In the photo you can see the door post and the hood of my truck with Isaac standing in the blind.
Ducks coming in to eat grain in the manure. All Mallards and Blacks. If you look closely, you can see the white, snowy owl mixed in with the ducks.
This crow got eaten by a Snowy owl, Interesting that it ate the brain out of the back of the skull.

Here is Isaac taking a bead on one. (He killed it) We had a flock of around 2 hundred birds over us in this photo. This photo is a screen shot of a video I was taking, once I get the video uploaded to Youtube, I'll include it here.
I reloaded some ammo the night before. Low-brass shells, with an ounce and an eight of #5 shot over 17.5 grains of 700X powder. I haven't done that in about 3 years, seemed like 10, but I had a good time. Anytime I'm in my shop, dog at my feet, with Tom Petty on the radio......

Very creative blind, I am sorry to hear about you losing a friend. Good luck to you every time you use it.
Thanks man, I still really miss him. After he died, I had a hard time going crow hunting or shooting 3D archery because he was always with me. I can tell myself all day that he would want me to continue, but it just isn't the same. Isaac also knew Rick very well and we told stories about previous adventures with Rick and we laughed our butts off. We had a great time for sure.
Got a photo of this guy in early Dec. We don't often see snowy owls this far south and when we do it's in Jan. or Feb. Thanks for the photos, looks like you had a fun shoot.

At the very bottom left of the page it'll say attached photos and you use that but then it will sometimes ask you if you want the photo to show on the page and you must select no
Nice trick for building a blind, and probably quicker/easier to build than other materials. They are black like crows, so your camo is easy... just dress like Johnny Cash.
Just don't drop crows into the tire pile, if you are planning to re-hunt from the blind anytime soon. Bad stink!

One crow we shot was singing a song on his way to the ground. "I fell into a burning ring of fire......." Or was it, "Sunday Morning Coming Down......?" Oh wait, that was a Saturday morning....
Hmmmm, what other Cash song titles can we come up with?
