I popped a pigeon on a silo once and it just lay there on its' tummy and pigeon after pigeon all day long and mated..with the dead..I reported this to the farmer who said"What a way to go!!"
I used an RWS(?) 1,000 FPS pellet rifle for the record..think I used wad cutters...or flat faced pellets reason being is energy transfer versus over penetration...
I do lots of pest bird control with air rifles.....I have 6 farms that I make my rounds on. I've seen this behavior more times than I care for.....pretty sick. Shot about 400 pigeons since last November when I first started.

I'm no avian expert, but it may have something to do with all the "pecking order" and dominance behavior that happens within bird communities. I've often seen other turkeys jump on and mount/beat up the bird I just killed.
Did you see the PM I sent?
