10ga and I got this Saturday and Sunday morning, 9/29 and 9/30, we had one the best two day shoots for these parts we can ask for in September. We took down 64 birds between us. We were both using 1 1/8 ounce of #6 from a pair of 10 gauge double guns, a Lefever and an Ithaca. This morning we had an immature Bald Eagle land in the decoys, I wish I had been quick enough to get a picture of it with is wings flared as it came in, pretty impressive at 26 yards. On to October as we await the fall migration.
Sounds like you guys got the big double guns warmed up. Good shooting and photos. It's interesting for me to see the crop maturity. I'm a bit surprised you don't have more color in the trees. We haven't started to change here either, which is a bit behind normal. Thanks for the report and keep after 'em.
How many did you two get? Oh by the way another colleague (I am not at liberty to say w here..or just who) had a helluva' crow shoot too by the way...really odd as this was the time of year in the late 70s my best shooting occurred.....when I was alone then...really jogged my memories.(Jaffrey,NH when the old Sawyers' farm was active)
I will say had you two been where my other colleague was I have no doubt you two would have gotten a hundred or so based on his report-he didn't shoot as well as he should have but there sure were lots of crows!
(Yes it was somewhere in NH!)
OK just saw it-64 birds-sorry! My window here needed to be stretched out to your read your report properly-great job gents!!
I hope to get out soon if they cut the corn down soon!!
Beautiful guns too and love it all!! My back is getting better but I need a little more healing to attempt any crow busting..I will but it will be late. Again-fantastic job and I love hearing about birds of prey too...where I go bald eagles are a very common sight and crows often dive bomb them....but when an eagle returns the favor a lone crow realizes he/she don't stand much of a prayer and often runs for its' life by diving away into the trees if it has too!
