I just got done adding up the numbers for this season.
We averaged 172 crows per hunt between my partner and I.
In 45 seasons the combined total of crows shot in my company comes to 254,109 crows.
Weather conditions killed a lot of our hunting this past season and as a result we only hunted half of what we normally do each season. The past two seasons I have not had to buy any ammo the shooting was so slow. I bought 1,300 rounds of 12 gauge trap loads for the first time in two seasons! I had over 3,000 rounds left over from this past season alone!
We only went out on 19 crow hunts this past season.
Bob: Sounds like I need to send you a supply of my CrowZac...to tide you over till next season.. when we both hope the weather is more cooperative for "crow management"!! Happy Easter, sir!
Look you two, stop whining and listen to me lament. Think your season was sad? Before I start crying, go pour yourself a strong one, get your largest bath towel to dry up tears, and sit down.
Last winter we had so much rain that many corn farmers literally gave up trying to complete their harvest, and in February many corn fields still had not been harvested. I believe that the migrating crows simply passed over my hunting area and headed to Mexico. In fact, I'm thinking of moving to the Moon, where it does't rain at all! Wonder if there are any crows up there!
I went on only four outings, and made a 100% full charged effort each time, and ended up the season with only 32 miserable crows. Not gonna think about crow hunting until next fall.
Last July my wife and I moved from Winston Salem, N.C. to North Wilkesboro, N.C. and are enjoying our new home. We are near the mountains, which we both love, and next fall I can enjoy some crow hunting, maybe. In the meantime, I just ordered the pattern for Noah's Ark, just in case next season is anything like last season!
I had a spectacular crow season, regardless of -20 degree weather and 40 mph winds. The crows had never been hunted in Lancaster county where I had resided. Even with many rookie mistakes made and changing weather conditions daily. I learned how not to educate them. Now that the season is over my next phase will be to just watch and learn from them. An upgrade on the shotgun will provide better numbers this comming season. Thanks to all who helped make it a great experience.
Nice report. Over a quarter of a million crows... Not bad at all. I am just a little behind you on the numbers. Give me a day or two to add up the totals and I'll tell you how close I am to you.
Demi
P.S. Thinking it over, you are probably far enough ahead that I won't catch you for a year or two, so don't worry about me for the time being.

The local gun supply shop said he knew of only one other crow hunter. He stated he tried it one time but didn’t enjoy it as all the equipment required to hunt Crows was to much work.

Too much equipment and too much work required to hunt crows

Hey there are some gents like that, my friend who had a sporting goods store sold Johnny Stewart Game Calls back in the 1970's and he said one of his customers brought the caller back ( a model 512 unit) and said it did not work and wanted his money back! My friend checked out the caller and it worked fine in the store and the guy says "the crows will not come close enough for a shot. My friend asked him "how well were you hidden?" the guys reply was that he put the speaker on the hood of his car on the shoulder of the road to call crows. My friend said that he needed to get off the road and walk in to where he was surrounded by trees so the crows would not spot him. The guys reply was that it was way to much work and put the caller on consignment for my friend to sell second hand! True story.
I believe it. Putting your call speaker on your hood to locate coyotes from 9pm to 5am works . But crows is totally different. Crow hunting isn’t for everyone, even the hunters who say they hunt crows turn down invitations.
