How To Clean Vintage Crow Call?

Greetings!

I recently picked up a vintage P.S. OLT Crow Call - No. 348205 for a dear friend of mine who has been wanting to get into crow calling (and she also enjoys vintage things!).  It's in good shape but it's dusty inside and I also know she will want to be assured that the call has been thoroughly cleaned before she uses it, being as it's pre-owned.  So...my question is, how does one clean/sterilize a call such as this one?  I believe it's made of hard rubber or plastic (?).  I'm attaching a photo if that helps.  Any advice or tips are greatly appreciated.  Thank you!  :)

Pam

Pam,

Get a dowel rod or a punch so you can insert it where the call bells out at the end of the call. Use the punch to knock out the mouthpiece and then you can clean the reed and mouthpiece. You will need to re adjust the reed so the crow call will sound natural once you put it back together.

Hi Bob,

Thank you so much for responding to my post. I tried pulling the mouthpiece off the other day but could barely get it to move. Your idea is much better! Thank you so much, I'll give it a try!

Thanks again,

Pam
