I decided to make a quick trip to an area I had scouted in the past. So Friday we loaded up and headed out. We spent most of the the day scouting and watching it rain. I had my eye on a spot that I figured would produce a good hunt but I hadn’t been able to gain permission in past trips to the area. This time I got lucky and met the owner and he took the time to write out a letter stating he was giving me permission to hunt his property, we where in business now. He also let me in on another bit of info, the local game warden and himself had been feuding and he advised I get a license because he is always around aggravating him. I took his advise and got myself a license.
We did get in a small hunt Friday evening in-between bouts of rain. We killed 19 in about 45 minutes and more importantly I got to watch the crows use the area we where hunting the following day.
Saturday morning we made our way with our "golden ticket" to the spot we where going to hunt. The spot is about 8 miles from the roost and the birds funnel through there in the morning and come back through in the evening. There is also a stand of pecan trees that they stop in at throughout the day. The conditions where bright and sunny with a 20mph wind gusting to 25 from the north west. I was happy to have the wind but it made for some real tough shooting. The birds came in from every possible possession, added with them being extra call shy made for a real head turner. We where setup and shooting by about 8 o'clock and the shooting was steady in spurts, with bust of fast action.
We downed 205 crows. Colt shot 101 and I shot 104. I didn't cut him any slack, he shot really well. By my best estimation we shot about 275ish rounds between the two of us.
I have some videos to come as soon as the videos get up loaded. Here is a short one of Colt and his new 12 gauge.
I traded a Benelli 20 gauge I had in on a Winchester SX4 12 gauge, put it in his hands and said lets see what you can do with it. He did pretty damn good, the gun is almost to much for him to swing real well but he managed it pretty good.
I'll let him know what you said. To be honest I had to bear down the last couple hours to pull ahead of him, I would never hear the end of it if he shot more than me haha.

Dale, Your son is more than likely the only 12 year old in the country who has shot over a hundred crows by himself! Simply outstanding! There are many crow hunters who have never shot a hundred crows in a day by themselves!
