Hey gentlemen on what average dates do y'all get after them?  We start early to mid September here but this year it's looking like first of Oct.  M12 is strong out of the gates so far this year so I thought I would ask. No problem if you don' want to give the information out, which could cause some a problem.

Butch,

Here in South Carolina, the season starts on November 1, but crop damaging crows may be shot year round.  The migratory birds are pouring in now for the crops coming in season (pecans, dove fields, corn and peanuts in a couple of weeks).  Various other crops will be hit as they find opportunities.

Good Hunting,

Demi

Butch, crows are gathered up here in Southern Manitoba by the thousands. Wish I could post a couple vids. I've been doing very good ~40-50 crows the last few hunts. Soon though, these birds will depart for the US Midwest regardless of plentiful food and good weather here...but a little bit smarter thoughsmile

Butch,

Since I have been keeping a little journal since I got more serious with the crows. The past couple seasons we have had the migrators show up somewhere around the 20th of October. And things get real serious around the first of November.

Butch,

They start showing up here in late October. We have at them as time allows and get serious once the crops are out.

Here you may chase them  starting Aug 15(?)but where I am concerned it's best to wait  mid to late October but others are already shooting here and there where available. Here they have already started crop damage even before the season opened....in our spring the crows will devastate newly planted corn and in late summer roughly they are already busy. But I am certain further north they are arriving by now and if you are in upstate New York better get busy before the arrival of the snow geese but I don't think ultimately there will be any big problem. Around here I waited until the goose hunters moved on and in this area  filling our limit shouldn't be that much of a problem; so they'll pack it in and the field is yours....there will be plenty of time later after they pack it in.

Initially things are slow until mid October then have plenty of ammo and lots of coffee and a really good area and no one else around.... and don't lead too much...when hit a crow will appear to be  moving out really swiftly but it's an illusion; just aim right on  ... and watch  the feathers explode-again-depending on your hit...and shot size...

On another note I got my Crowbusters  crow calls and  now I am a real tried and true hard core crow buster!!! At these prices there is no reason not to have them....I got nothing against electronic calls but  everyone has them north of the Concord corridor and you have tons of competition! You got to be flexible. What other wise do you do when a crow sits out there a few hundred yards content to just watch? I used to talk them in! That is the mark of an expert now too bad I don't shoot as well as I can call! Now combining the two is devastating to the crow and extremely effective but I like talking to a crow way out there you cannot see who tells me he/she/it is interested! Now I support electronic calling but I see these days too much reliance on electronics and what happens if your batteries die?  It has happened to me but I am pretty cool with mouth calls so we were not hurt at all. And why the crowbusters calling techniques  are very useful and ought to be in your crow calling repetroire I still us the ones I grew up with and very effective too that you. Still I hear no one as good as me around here....now I love it when I have some one who can at least do caw caw caw as I can  team up and it sounds like two crows one doing the high pitched and me doing the low old master crow calling technique...

Anyways I usually don't go until the migrants arrive meaning that could be late October even though it is already legal -for me-going after one crow won't cut it....except maybe run and gun if possible..which around here isn't so "possible" anymore. Maybe further north?
