Been a very early spring up here in Prairie Canada. Crows are showing up now but in numbers yet worthy of a strong effort. Shot a few first crows for 2022 yesterday morning. First two became the decoys! pics below for your enjoyment

Good to hear they're making it back for you, Ted. Our last hunt was 8 March and they were thinning out in a hurry around here.

Hoping to hear how NH and 10ga's shooting was.

Good hunting and keep us posted. The pictures were certainly enjoyed.

Hi Randy,  we had very good better than average winter/spring season between Maine and NH, far and away better than a year ago. We didn't have a lot of snow this winter which made access to hunting spots easier.  On average it seemed colder and we had a lot of really windy days that hampered our hunting.  The push of birds moving north in decent numbers seemed to happen about a week earlier in March than usual with our best overall shoot happening on 3/27.  We never saw any really big groups of birds but a steady stream of singles and pairs is more to my liking. Our season in both states ended yesterday, 3/31.

This was a great spring hunt, had my 2nd highest spring total and my best single spring day total  was on 3/31/21. I hope the fall is the same,

Very good to hear you guys had successful shooting. Nearing and surpassing personal bests is satisfying. No season's ever the same. This year it seemed like the numbers increased for less than a week around here and they were gone. Wasn't earlier than normal, it just started later. We were hunting wintering crows and before we knew it they were thinning out. We were satisfied with our season as well.

Hope your fall season is the same as well. Keep after 'em.

Spring crow hunting here in southern Canada is getting more difficult every year. My bet is that every other guy and his uncle john are blasting Foxpro sounds across the Midwest and south. Crows moving north lately are sporting college degrees. Time to look for some new sounds I feel.

Ted,

Seemed like they were smarter than usual this past season here too. Funny thing was, the last couple hunts, we had dumb crows and soft shooting. Go figure.

You might be right about some new sounds. We try and mix them up, mostly JS and FoxPro. We use the Fusion feature on the call as well, running two different sounds simultaneously. Throw in the Gibson and Mallard Tone and that's a pretty wide variety. But there's days they'd respond to a sick chicken  and others the Pied Piper himself couldn't get them interested. That's why it's not easy. Keep after 'em.

Randy, yes I do fine the same. Some days crows are wild, other days they float over like they're bullet proof. Had a few decent spring hunts as of late, very close to my home. Will post when I get time.

Good morning fellas, went on my first Crow hunt since my surgery. I put 6 down outta 12, that’s good for me. Alabama crows fly on the tree tops. High brass 7s worked better then low brass. Had 1 old slow Bull circle me just out of range.

Just got permission to hunt 1000 acres of farm fields, seen at least 3 dozen Crows picking peas while talking to the farmer. I scouted it out and located my blind location. Got it ready to set up the blind Thursday afternoon to hunt Friday morning.

I’ve set up my blind in a wash on top on the plowed fields next to an oat field and cow pasture.

Terrell,

Very nice work on your blind! Concealment is a big key to success in this game!

Looking forward to monitoring your upcoming successes.

Demi

Good afternoon, interesting morning. Set out the decoys and as I was getting into the blind a crow landed with the decoys. I loaded a shell into the benlli and locked it. This made the crow fly to a dead oak above me. As I loaded 2 more shells it flew back into the decoy set up. Well that didn’t work well for it. I began with a Mourning call, then a recognition cal. That brought in about 5 more 1 at a time. Perfect for my skill level. Then nothing for about 20 minutes. A co-worker text so I responded. About then I heard a flapping sound and there’s another crow landing with the decoys. I finished the morning with 12 down. Around 7:30 10 Buzzards landed with the decoys so I picked up and called it a good hunt.

Hey everyone, I went Coyote hunting on the property yesterday evening. I set up on the highest point on the edge of the oat field. The Crows flew over the dead birds I left as the farmer wanted. Then would circle a few times and Caw then fly to there roosting trees. Knowing their flight paths I’m going to run and gun without decoys on the fence lines. Only thing is the cows are very curious. They gather where I’m at. Talk in the morning when the hunt is finished.
