The ammo shortage has been around for almost year now, but things have been getting a little better lately...HOWEVER. With dove season about to crank up, we are seeing another mad rush on field ammo that will most likely put things in a pinch for both hunters and shooters. Most people have no idea of how many billions of rounds are bought up by hunters (dove, duck, pheasant, and quail), and they are out looking for ammo as we speak.
Looks like the ammunition distributors have been doing their best to take care of the competitive shooters. At least most of the shoots I've attended have had enough to go around, assuming you aren't picky with the brand/load/speed you use. Having said that, almost all 12 & 20 ga. shotgun ammo I see is now above $ 100-175 per flat.
Good luck and hope you can find it. If you see it, you better buy it!
Demi

I've heard some areas have a better supply than others. Luckily I'm not in the market, as there's almost none to speak of around here.
What Demi mentioned about price is what I'd noticed too. $60/flat shells are now $100+. The difference here is the price will be on the shelf but the shells won't.
Some of my shells are reloads, but most were bought wherever I could find them cheapest. (I know a guy. He likes cash transactions).
Before Iowa started charging tax on internet purchases a guy could get some good deals. I got some darn' cheap shells at Academy Sports, Natchez Shooters Supply, Midway, Rogers Sporting Goods etc. Shipping was free too, something you don't see much of lately.
The bottom line is, there are no good deals that I know of, on any ammo at the present.
I just bought 750 rounds at an Academy near me. It was $69 a flat, of course, this was the cheap dove loads in 1 oz. Last year I bought a 1000 rounds of the same stuff for $59 a flat. Seems like the prices aren't to crazy around me it is just getting ahold it before everyone else does.

Still have a couple hundred pounds of lead shot, 7 1/2 and 8, in my garage as our trap club ordered a few pallets years ago. Load a nice 1 1/16 oz load with Green Dot and the very common Gun Club or WWAA hull I pull out of the trash at the range. I'm not proud

Are you guys able to lay your hands on any ammo to speak of ?Where do you buy your ammo ?
Are you short on ammo Bob? There is ammo available from several on-line retailers, however you are probably not going to like the price but you won't like the price of a new truck this year either. The inflation we saw in the 1970's is back only bigger and stronger and as long as the gov't spends money like a drunken sailor on steroids and the money has to be printed out of thin air and put into circulation it is only going to get worse. You are of German heritage, you may be familiar with what happened with the Weimar Republic after they were forced to pay war reparations with money they didn't have........a wheel barrow full of Marks to buy a loaf of bread.
Hi Pete, no I am ok on ammo just will buy more if I see it at the right price.
If I was starting from scratch this season I would be going through high anxiety as I have only been able to get 600 trap loads in 6 visits to Walmart so far. I paid $ 6.25 per box in those four packs. If 600 rounds was all I had it would be pointless to even go as that would not last two days !

Buy every box you see at that price, we really are not likely to see those prices again, eventually the contracts Walmart has with it's suppliers will expire and they will also reset prices.
Demi, they let you have either 3 four packs when they come in or 3 boxes of 25 each, makes no sense to me but that is what we have to deal with. I just jump through the whoops and get my ammo and go.
