I went on a 3 day outing with an older fella that wanted to shoot some crows. We revisited some areas that Dale and I had been earlier in the season. One of the first stops was really a scouting venture and when I parked by the orchard to see what activity was going on I could hear occasional gun shots, come to find out the Alaska crow hunter was there and man had he put it to them a couple days before that. He had quite a heap piled up under a tree, ( around 500 ) OUCH ! well, we were a couple days to late or that would have been our shoot. We stopped and talked with him & I made the comment that I heard from Bob that all good crow hunters cross paths sooner or later. We talked crows for a bit and we were on our way.
We tried an evening shoot and only got 9 because we missed the flyway. We hunted every morning and evening and the grand total between us both was 148 which was a disappointment since we saw thousands but the majority were fish crows and most don't respond to the caller and those that do are super high or they flare off right out of range. ( FISH CROWS SUCK ) !!! in case you've never dealt with them.
Although we didn't get much of a total it was good to get out and see what the are doing later in the season, talk with some land owners about next year and of course to find if other crow hunters have been in the area. Paul.
