I'm going to have to be a bird watcher this season...

Bad & good news for me. Bad, I had a stroke in June and my Doc doesn't want me shooting a shotgun or large rifle this season. Good news, I'm alive & fairly back to normal other than missing a word every now and then. I had a torn liner in my carotid artery that caused my stroke. It should heal itself so I'm out until next march and get it scanned then. Until taking blood thinners & no shooting. I told Dale to find a new partner this year but he wanted me with even if I can't shoot. So I'll take pics & do some scouting and make it a vacation for me. The best I can do is shoot hoppers with my suppressed 22 rifle. That's my story, hope to make it thru this and get back to it again. Paul.

Paul, I wish you a speedy recovery. It's a bitch missing a season but there will be other seasons ahead.

Tell Dale you will be his loader if he buys dinner each night!

Talk with you soon.

Paul,

Glad to hear you're on the way to healing up. When a guy's health takes a wrong turn, we discover how much we've taken it for granted.

From the crows perspective, many will live because of your misfortune. Although he'll try, Dale won't be able to pick up all the slack.

Sincerely wishing you a blessed recovery. Randy

A second opinion might be in order. smile

Thanks' for my recovery. I put a lot of time and equipment into this so I can't just sit around. Already doing some scouting and checking things out. I'll have time to take pics and post how it goes while Dale's heating up his gun. I have another partner close to me who can get after some locally with me so the birds aren't getting a free pass on them while I'm out. Keep posted. Paul.

I took an old guy out to a local place today.I  was expecting 20 at the most but we squeeze out more. I did the work and he did the shooting. He missed some easy ones but did get two doubles so can't complain.  Found a nice rack while there and would have got a coyote that came to the call if I took my 22. First outing not bad. Keep posted.  Paul

Thanks for the report and pictures, Paul. That first time out is always an enjoyable one.

If you don't mind, what's your definition of, "old guy"? I'm thinking there are some who would put me in that category.biggrin

 Keep after 'em.

Dale did the shooting while I gave support ! Lol. I  kept busy. Two days of shooting.  A great time. I also got a few hoppers with the 22 suppressed rifle. Paul

Randy I use that word lightly anymore. I'm sure I fall into that group to some. I'll have to refer to Marvin from now on. It's easy enough since I only shoot with him or Dale. The good part will be if we can be referred to as an old guy some day ! I hope you get after them soon. Our last outing was t shirt weather.

Hi Paul!

I’m glad you are on the road to recovery. Sounds like you are already up to your old tricks, which is good. 😁

Thanks for the reports, I enjoy them.

Was the 402 a 2 day total or a 1 day total? Either way, nice trip!

All the best,

BH

402 was the total out two days. Dale got a record of 184 at one morning hunt. That number should have been higher but something about shooting a full choke and some birds getting in your face made it difficult on some. He intends on keeping both guns in the blind in the future, full choke in one & a modified in another. Paul.

Looks like you guys had some fun, in shirt sleeve weather. Nice work and keep after 'em.

 Randy

We've got a couple hunts in. Just haven't made time to report.

Hey BH,

Haven't heard much from you lately. Maybe we know why now. According to your picture, you are not aging well. no

Hi Randy!

I still check in here somewhat often but you are right that I haven’t been posting much lately. I’ll try to be seen more. I do miss you fellers.

You are also right that I’m not getting any younger. But don’t let my self-portrait steer you wrong, I’m doing fine. The picture was taken at a fundraiser for the local rotary club. They put on a charity derby race at a dirt track raceway and I sat in the front row, hence the dirty face. They were raising money for a local Lake Michigan pirate who had contracted a bad case of termites in his peg leg. That’s a pretty dire thing in the pirate community. Thankfully enough money was raised for a new peg leg made from Trex decking. He can hobble in style now.

Just so you know, my dental situation is much better now. My missing chompers have been replaced with gold teeth. They are stylish and compliment my gangster lifestyle quite well.

Cheers & Blessings

BH

  Ahh, that explains everything.

Says a lot about a guy who takes time to help out an ailing ex-pirate. (Assuming he's retired).

Paul,

Best of luck with your recovery. Sitting in the blind taking photos sure beats what it could have been!!! You are a lucky (aka: Blessed) man!
