I have a couple of crow calls on a lanyard that go on my hunts and I have a couple more that stay in the locker because I just don’t feel confident with the sounds I produce with them. I also have an electronic caller that shares duty between crow and coyote hunting. Twenty four crow songs are stored in the electronic caller and really only about four get regular use. I use both the mouth calls and the EC on crow hunts. Sometimes I get too busy for the mouth calls and I’ll just let the EC do the work. I’ll get out of breath blowing, I’ll be fumbling for shells or shell boxes or with a coffee cup or frozen still and tensed up watching nervous crows and the EC is working all by itself.
Here’s my point. I’m beginning to think that crows get used to my recorded songs and I wonder if my EC is becoming a crow warning device.
I've been scouting and built a hide last week in a new area and I’m heading out tomorrow morning for the last crow hunt of the season.
