Hello from Germany
(Preview)
Hi Lads, I've been inactive for a while but I thought I'd pop in to say hi. Life's been good and I've learned a lot and hunted crows (and foxes, boar, ducks etc.) since last I've been here. We've brought up the sons count to three, I've added a good bit to my hunting gear and finally got a dog. A fine Labrador...

The huntin threads got me to open the safe (dang near forgot combination) anyway I have always enjoyed seeing y'alls guns in your pics. M12(Ted) pics are off the charts, O.A. And others do great also. So while I was looking I took a pic of a few of my pump guns to share and while I was in there I saw my Dads car...

Your favorite mouth call....
(Preview)
Yeah here I am stepping on sacred ground yet again..but sometimes the novice crow hunter might bypass a perfectly suitable call not made by a well known company. But here are the ones I recommend; Haydells', mallardtone, johnny stewart, HS Strut; Hammerin' crow call,Faulks' and PS OLt...for star...

Vanishing Cornfield Feeders
(Preview)
Reconned a favorite spot yesterday, a week following the rains, and was pleased to find it passable, unlike the mire it was a few days ago. So, I set the blind up last night to save some time. This place is in a large, open cornfield, about 6 miles E of town on a main road. While setting up the blind yesterday...

"Opening Day" commuters
(Preview)
Thursday (22 FEB) went out for “Opening Day,” only 21 days late. As tradition dictates, I usually go to one of a couple of places that are just outside of city limits and close to home in case I fergit’ something. So, Day One is usually an equipment check and head check day. Sure nuf’, even though I use a che...

Nontox Crow load
(Preview)
What do you guys shoot on marshes and areas where non-tox is required? I hate the stuff, but it is a fact of life. Normally I shoot a 1 1/8oz handload of #7s at 1300fps.

Distortion-free auxiliary speakers
(Preview)
Being fundamentally frugal ("cheap") and enjoying tinkering, a couple of years ago I decided I needed more sound power. My solution was to power up my FoxPro Spitfire, using an inexpensive amplifier powered by a 7ah battery, and two auxiliary speakers. I have refined this system to the point where i...

How is your crow hunting this season?
(

)
(Preview)
Since I see very little activity I have to assume that everyone except for Demi is doing worth a damn on crows this year? Is this a fair statement? I know Pete mentioned that this was the worst season he has ever had to endure because of weather conditions. "you can't fight the weather" Butch says his num...

High, Low or no matter?
(Preview)
Hey Butch (and other southern hunters...) The area I hunt (central MS) has what I guess I would call gently rolling hills for the most part... I'm trying to pick some spots to set-up my blind for next year. In general have you noticed whether it matters if you set up in a low spot or high ground? I mostly...

My Fish Crow Fantasy Fulfilled!
(Preview)
Fish Crows have always been a big challenge for me. In addition to being smaller and having a different call, they are extremely wary, in part because they usually travel in large groups (typically from 25 to 100) in order to have more eyes looking for danger. At the slightest sign of trouble they go fo...

Bob Aronsohn--A 400 Beretta

Bob, You mentioned that your Beretta A 400 jammed several times one afternoon. What kind of shells (make, load) were you shooting? How many times had the gun been shot since it was thoroughly cleaned? I have, and use, only SKB gas operated automatic shotguns, that were made 30-45 years ago. They usua...

Time to hunt!
(Preview)
Gonna be heading out here in about an hour to hopefully have what’s appearing to be the best hunt this year. I found a ton of crows staging before the roost and filtering in and out to feed throughout the day. Hopefully everything turns out right and they work like they need to. Gonna have the wind at my bac...

Calling it a year
(Preview)
Time to move on to other opportunities (crappie) as the crows put it on me this season. As I posted this year We were unable to find good numbers and in most cases areas that have produced consistently we're almost without crows. We ended killing 338 on 7 hunts compared to 910 last year and 1104 year befo...

Hunting from a tire blind

Five years ago next month, my buddy Rick and I were desperate and we hunted from a blind built out of tires. Rick died the year after this hunt. He was one of the greatest friends I ever had. Mouth calls in cold weather
(Preview)
I have tried 3 different mouth calls and they sound great inside but I live in northern NY and after the first couple blows of the morning they seem to be freezing up. Am I doing something wrong or is it there a better option? I have tried keeping them tucked in my coat but not always an option.
